First Post-op

First post-op visit was yesterday and had my tube removed. I have been feeling nausea and dry hiving for the last few days. The doctor gave me some med and told me that it is because I am not getting my water in. The best I can do is about 32 oz. of h2o. And the thought of protein shakes makes me ill. Today I woke up thirsty. I had 20 oz. in before 10 and I remember dr. saying something about the healthy weight store. I got some hot chocolate and chicken broth that is full of protein. Made some hot chocolate and what a difference 15 grams of protein makes. Boy, do I feel better. For supper I had a Tsb. of mashed potatoes and cottage cheese and kept it down. Made me some decaffeinated ice tea and drinking it like crazy. I am taking my vitamins and b12.

Did something stupid tonight, I decided to drive to the dollar store. I had DH with me and the first turn of the wheel I screamed in pain from my left side. Needless to say DH drove home. I hear that you can be tender for at least a month after surgery.

Does anyone hurt when they sit strait up in a chair after WLS? It feels like my insides are splitting and about to come out. I guess it is all part of being on the loser’s bench.  I have lost a total of 37 pound since the first of November. I am on my way …….. ;)

YOUR doing great, cant wait to see you again. as far as getting all your water in and protein in it is a learning process. but you have no choice you have to make yourself get it done. not today , and not tomorrow but you need to increase a little each day. it will happen.  take care of your self and rest as much as possible. im really proud of you.

Hello,

I had surgery on the 5th of this month and I am still having issues with getting the protein in.  I had to stop the B1 liquid because of the dry heaves.  I am now on a B1 pill.  I'm still looking for a good source of protein.  I'm kind of afraid of introducing solids, I know I have to, but I would rather do liquids.  As Jan said, it's a learning process, good luck to you.  You are doing great!

Jane, My Vertical Sleeve surgery was 12/17. I have been doing great except for the sharp left-side pain you described so perfectly. It has severely hindered my ability to stand up and walk very far. Because of the holiday my fist post-op isn't until the 27th. I would love to know if anyone else is experiencing or has experienced the same pain that we are having. Hang in there! You are in my prayers. Have a happy holiday! Jeff

Jeff, that left side...everyone experiences that...It's where the camera was inserted and the biggest incision of them all.  I thought I was gonna die before they took out my drain a week later.  It DOES go away...:)
