Insurance Question

Hello everyone... I have insurance through HealthFirst.  I live in Carthage, MO. and have been told by the insurance company that I need to wait 3 years from the date my husband went on the insurance before they will pay.  Has anyone heard of this??  I would have to wait over a year till that date comes.  The do cover both types LapBand and Gastric, but a three year wait?  Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and if there were any ways around it.  Thanks for any help you can offer...
