As most of you know that I am having WLS in two weeks. After the meeting Monday night I got to thinking about my protein powder. I like the GNC pro-performance Chocolate. It has three grams of sugar per scoop. Is this to much after the surgery? The other flavors have one gram of sugar. I have seen other chocolate powders that have 1 gram of sugar. Does it really matter?

Jane i doubt if the 3 grams will hurt but you never know how sensitive you will be after surgery. Anything less that about 10 grams doesnt seem to bother me but i know some that any at all makes them sick. so the first time you drink it after surgery sip it really slow and be aware of any bad feelings you might have ......be sure and wait your alloted time before you try it. I dont know what Dr. Edwards policy is.

I found that some things that I loved before surgery, I couldn't stand after - your taste buds change.  Then of course, as Jan mentioned:  some folks can tolerate more sugars than others.  3 grams wouldn't bother me either, but it might you.  So you may want to hold off buying large quantities of protein powders and such until after you have your surgery and see what you can tolerate and you like.  Get samples sizes of several different things.  vitalady.com sells sample sizes and I'm sure other places offer samples too.

GNC also will let you return opened powders if it doesn't work for you.
