Hi everyone,
I post infrequently so you probably don't know but I got approved last minute for my gastric bypass (Cigna POS is a p.o.s.) I just had my surgery on Wednesday October 17 at St. Alexius Hospital (Dr. Norbert Richardson). I got home yesterday early afternoon actually and I've settled in nicely. What hurts me most is an area below the drain but actually my back hurts more because it has been out since before the surgery. Also I have a headache.
I wasn't thrilled with St. Alexius Hospital. At least I got a private room. I was surprised when after I got out of surgery they said I couldn't drink any water all day. I had little swabs to moisten my mouth. That was the most awful part of the surgery. That night, my fluids had run dry and I pushed the call button and got two separate aids who said they would send in my nurse to change the bag. So far I had waited an hour and had called my mother upset that no one had come in to change the bag yet. The machine was beeping the whole time. I hung up with my mom when the second aid came in because I thought she would change my bag...she didn't. So I picked up my folly, tied my gown, unplugged my monitor, and wheeled it down to the nurses station and said: "Who do I have to beg to get my f-ing bag changed!" I reported this to the nurse manager the day I left. She seemed appalled but who knows if anything will happen.
Other than that the surgery went well.
Jenna welcome home and hope you continue to get better and better . follow all the rules and sip and walk and sip and walk. those are very important to good healing . will continue to keep you in my prayers. Jan

Welcome to the losers bench!! Sorry you had a rotten experience at the hospital. But you're out of there now and done with all that, so concentrate on healing and losing that weight.
On your back pain - did you happen to have your surgery lap? If so, that back pain could very well be from the gas they use to basically inflate you so they can work on you, it must then dissipate and it causes a pain of it's own as it must reabsorb into your system and it is painful when it does this. It can cause pains in the chest and back.
Of course, my back also hurt just from laying on the very uncomfortable hospital beds, and laying in bed and sleeping more than I was used to, or laying in different positions trying to keep things from pulling/tugging on staples and such and I found that was also causing my back to hurt.
I'll be praying for you!
