Hi Everyone

Hi Everyone,  I need some help from all you great folks from MO....My husband took a job in Kansas City about a year, I have been very relunctant to move out there, but have now made the decision that to keep my marriage I need to make the move.  I am leave a job of 22yrs and the only place I have ever lived in, scary move for me.  I have a 8yr old son who will be going with me.  I am a caseworker with the child support division here in Texas.  I will need to get a job, I would like to either work back in State government or with the airline industry, if I could have my way it would be with Southwest Airlines.   I will be moving to Kansas City at the beginning of the year, I am looking for info on good school districts, areas to live in, anyone have a home for rent...anyone know of a great job..anyone just wanna be my friend to show me around...etc... Oh yeah...and support groups in the area? Thanks so much Melissa

Hi Melissa - I live in the eastern side of the state, closer to St Louis, but wanted to welcome you to Missouri!!    I have an uncle and cousin in the KC area; but I don't know much about it personally, so I'm sure others who do can help you with your questions. We're glad to have you join us here on the OH Missouri board. 

Melissa, I live in SW Missouri but am originally from NW Missouri and i love Kansas City.  There are great areas - if I were looking for a place to live up there I'd choose the suburbs on the Kansas side like Overland Park, Shawnee Mission, etc.  I go up there about every other month and shop at Costco and Whole Foods and they have a great mall in Overland Park.  My car has to go up to KC for any warranty work so I use that as an excuse to go sometimes.  I don't know much about the east side of town but I do love KC.  I wanted to move up there when we came back to MO from Las Vegas but my dear husband thought Springfield would have milder weather and he is right.  However, I still prefer Kansas City - like big towns. Hello Melissa, wanted to welcome you to the mo. board. I know nothing about the K.C. area but do know that there is a great support group headed by Colette Swan in the K.C. area. So you will have to get in touch with her. Welcome and hope you come back really often....

Hi Melissa; I live south of KC about 35 miles. I live in a small town called Freeman, Mo. Glad to meet you and would welcome you to the missouri board. Would be glad to converse with you about the KC area. Where is your Hubby working? This would help to steer you to the right side of town. Are you interested in living in the City or out of town? Subdivisions or acreage? Would be glad to hear from you. You can contact me trough email and we could talk.

Again, I live in the Southwest part of the state -- but nonetheless Welcome!! I travel to KC often for shows and concerts. It's a great city --- the only drawback for me is the roads -- I always get lost. My best advice since you are moving to a totally new city is to invest in a GPS for your car. Thats what I did -- after the last time I got lost in KC and ended up in Kansas and almost missed catching a train!! It was the best $ 300 I have spent. I got mine from Best Buy. Easy to set up and use. I just type in my address and follow the turn by turn directions. And I haven't got lost since then. Best of luck to you. Welcome to Missouri.

Melissa, Hello and welcome to the MO board glad you can join us.  I live in a subburb of KC called Overland Park.  I have lived in KC all my 40 yrs of life and love it here.  We have great schools however there are some you want to avoid as with any state you go to there are the bad and the good areas.  I wasn't sure if you were moving to the MO side or KS side?  I have a friend who is a psychologist and works with the division of family services in MO I am sure there are plenty of jobs here that you might enjoy and find rewarding?  I would be more than happy to show you around town.  We have great shopping malls and attractions if you like that?  Let me know if I can be of help to you.  Good luck with your move and come back and join us here on the MO board.
