How much did you know before surgery

I was just wondering how much did you know before you had surgery.   I was quite surprised when I was at my post op visit that the others in my "class" where not very knowledgable about the procedure, the fact that you have to take vitamins the rest of your life.  The differences in the different surgeries.  Many many other things they where not aware of or informed of.   Makes me wonder how they came to the decision to have the surgery?  I researched for several months, joined this board, talked to the surgeons, went to the seminar, did the 3 month insurance program.  This is the rest of your life how can you not be informed.  It makes me scared for them.   So how much did you know about it before you did it and was there anything you where surprised to learn either before or after the surgery?

Peace in all you do,
Bel

My husband and I both researched for about two years before I decided what I wanted to do.  I talked to people who had surgery, went to seminars, read online, I even watched that video online for awhile that was an actual lap band surgery they did live online.  Then I had to do a 6 month diet for insurance so I continued to research, was doing the pre-op visits with the doctor, went to some of their required things and continued to research.   There hasn't been anything that has shocked me, a few things I forgot but but either my husband or I so far have either heard, read or were informed by the doctor about everything.  That relates to the big things mainly.  Now, like last night I learned that bread that is TOOOO toasted is not for me...on those things, everyone is different.   I went into the band feeling I was very well informed and comfortable with my decision.  But, you are right, when I was going to some of the pre-op stuff, I was shocked by some of the questions...I, too, wondered how people got that far and didn't know some of the stuff.   Jennifer
