Too much pre-op weight loss?

Originally I weighed 250 pounds and had a BMI of 41. In the reading I did about WLS, everything said I would need to loose weight before the surgery, so I've been working on that since the beginning of the year, and my BMI is now down to 38. The info I received at the WLS seminar shows my insurance, Aetna, requires 3 months of doctor supervised diet, exercise and counseling before they'll consider approval. My question is, if the 3 months of diet & exercise drops my BMI below 35 (another 25 pound weight loss would do that), will insurance then say I no longer qualify?? Would Dr. Edwards say I no longer qualify??

I doubt if Dr. Edwards would say you no longer qualify but I'd be really careful or your insurance will think you can just lose without the surgery and not pay for it.  I, too, had a low BMI and I did six months of pre-op diet and exercise and lost only 6 pounds.  I gained information, stamina and much better health but I did not lose weight.  I was afraid I would be denied.  So, I say, be very, very careful.  Private message me if you want more of my thoughts. "WLS is about making better choices, a healthier lifestyle and seeing how little you can eat.  Portion control is the key to all weight loss surgeries.  Bottom line - it isn't how much you can eat - it is how little you can eat."
