Good morning neighbors! I have been on OH for a little while now, and just came across the Missouri board. I live in St. Louis, and I had lap-band surgery almost 4 weeks ago. I am very interested in knowing if there are any support groups that you know of in St. Louis. I look forward to making new friends here! take care, Melissa

Nobody said it would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it!

"WLS is about making better choices, a healthier lifestyle and seeing how little you can eat.  Portion control is the key to all weight loss surgeries.  Bottom line - it isn't how much you can eat - it is how little you can eat."

Thank you all very much for the welcome! A little about me, I'm 34, single, no children, work full time and go to school full time. I started this process because obesity runs in my family, my great-grandmother was about 600 lbs when she died. I have been insulin resistant for most of my life, and I wanted to prevent progressing to Type II. Unfortunately, when I went for my physical and blood work, I found out that I had already progressed. I've been on blood pressure meds since I was 27, and I'm tired of taking them, I want my health back. The good news is, my doc isn't worried because with the surgery I will lose the weight and the diabetes and blood pressure meds will go away. I love my band. I am happy with the decision to have the surgery, the only problem I have is I wish I had done it 2 years ago when I had first considered it!

Nobody said it would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it!

Melissa, Welcome! I am pretty new too. I have been on the board quite a while but reading and researching. I also just had my lapband-3 and 1/2 weeks now. I live in St. Louis also. I had my lapband at Des Peres hospital. I believe they are starting a support group. I asked on the site-there seems to be a large group in Columbia and Springfield however, I have not found one already meeting in St. Louis. If I hear any more about the Des Peres group (if it starts) I will email you. Someone did also reply to me and said they thought there may be one at another hospital in the area with a Dr. Roger De La Torre but I have not found that one. Looking forward to talking to you. Fellow St. Louisian,

Bret Renee Nelson
