Jeanie, I had lap RNY on 12/26/06 and have lost 106 pounds now.  I chose RNY because I was type II diabetic and wanted to get that stopped immediately.  I knew the band wouldn't work for me because it would allow me to eat the "wrong" things that got me overweight in the first place.  I need restriction and malabsorption.   And, isn't it ironic, the band scared me to death!!!  The thought of rearranging my innards didn't faze me but the thought of something plastic around my stomach freaked me out.  And then the fills sort of intimidated me - I'm compulsive so I would probably think I had too much or too little in my band all the time. So, I chose RNY and have not had a single problem.  Just have to follow the rules and the loss is astounding.   Just my take - it's a personal choice but I wanted a permanent change. Hugs, Lana

"WLS is about making better choices, a healthier lifestyle and seeing how little you can eat.  Portion control is the key to all weight loss surgeries.  Bottom line - it isn't how much you can eat - it is how little you can eat."

Lana, Thanx for the hugs. Times like these they mean a lot.  Although the Dr. I consulted with about this proceedure, I'm not sure yet which way I will be going for sure.  He didn't have a chance to look at my med. History so the Dr. at Clombia may want to go another route. I also have type II diabetes I'm not insulin dependant and don't want to become that way. I have had good weight loss in the past but my metabolism has slowed down. I stay away from sugars don't eat deserts and my blood sugar is pretty much under control with just oral meds. I am compulsive and have done the OA thing it just didn't last. My main problem is I have to be on oxygen although my ox levels are ok when I'm not excercising as soon as I start to move aroung I need the assist. I really don't like the idea of any kind of surgery but nothing is helping me now. I need to practically eat nothing and I need some way to help me do this. I'm going to try to make things move a little faster by contacting the Columbia system today by phone and see if I can do the seminar on line and maybe get with the doctors as soon as possible. I'm so grateful for this message board and the feedback I'm getting. LOL
