So I took the plung, lol. I ordered bariatic vitamins. My Nut highly recomends we get on them at 2 months out or so. SO here is what I got. 100% Chewable Essential Package ( Orange Calcium / Black Raspberry Iron ) 90-Day Supply: Chewable Multiple Vitamin ( Mixed Berry), Chewable Calcium Citrate (Orange), and Chewable Iron 30 mg (Black Raspberry). I ordered them from www.bbvitamins.com What vitamins do you take? I think I will still have to take b-12 on top of this and I know I will still take and anti acid. I opted for the chewable since calcium is a pain any other way.

Hey Erin,      I was wondering about vitamins then I saw your post. That's one thing that I haven't done alot of research on yet. So basiclly it's a multi-vitamin, iron, calcium and B-12, right? And do you just take one of each a day?(except the B-12)      And how many protien shakes a day do you have? Just trying to figure this all out so I can start getting stuff ahead of time so I have it all ready when I get home from surgery.       Take Care, Tammy V.

Well right now tell my new bariatric vitamins come in I take: Flintstone chewable with iron twice a day B-complexe twice a day B-12 twice a day Calcium twice a day 2 pepcide complete twice a day The bariatric vitamins have B-complexe in the multi so you take: muti iron calcium B-12 2 pepcide complete twice a day At 2 and a half months out I have 1-2 protien shakes a day. I only due 1 scoop of protien powder per shake. Our bodies can obsorbe much more then that.

I noticed your were also Dr. de la Torre and wanted to let you know that he has CHANGED his directives in regards to Vitamins in the last month.  They are now having patients START their bariatric vitamins two weeks BEFORE surgery so their body gets used to them.  No more Flinstones.  I had my class on May 25th but then had my surgery postponed and between the end of May and the end of July they revamped all this. I'm currently taking the following:  · 2 Bariatric Multi-Vitamin chewables a day, I personally use the Bariatric Advantage brand.  · 1 Chewable Iron with calcium, although this is not required.  They typically wait and only recommend this depending on your blood work done 3 months out, but since I'm often anemic pre-surgery I decided to be proactive.  · 1 tsp liquid Thiamin (B1), they gave me  prescription for this from pharmacy upon release from hospital.  It is required you finish the bottle which should take 5-weeks and then they say the amount of B1 in the Bariatric Multi-vitamin should be sufficient.    · B12 Sublingual or Shots, patient's choice. At three months post-op I'm to add Calcium Citrate vitamin (1000-1500mg). Right now I'm also taking a prescription Prevacid Solu-Tab that has 1 refill on it, so that tells me that at the two month mark they'll decide how we need to proceed on that front.  They also gave me a prescription liquid to keep me from getting ulcers (nasty stuff), but it has no refill so I'm hoping that goes away when its gone. There were a few more changes they made in their directives but Nancy, RN was still compiling them and said she'd probably share them with the DePaul support group in September.  About the only one she would confirm was that drinking straws are not longer on the No-No list.

And I went to universoty of Missouri in Columbia so even with the same surgeon and different Nut and such it is different there. I did send and email to my Nut even telling her of my changes and such.  I go for my three months check up on the 28th so I am sure if there are any other changes they will let me know.  The straw thing is interesting because that is one thing I have accidently done not even thinking with out any problems.  Thanks!!

Erin, Your new, to me at least, picture is amazing.  You look wonderful.  Your vitamin regimen is a little different from mine.  I take 2 chewable Citracal and 1 Citracal petite every day - I'm old and don't want to risk any bone problems.  Also, 1 sublingual B12, one B complex, one Sams club prenatal, and Pepcid morning and evening.  I have done this every day since surgery.  Just completed having labs at my PCP and all was good although he didn't do any vitamins except B12.  Surgeon will do full panel with vitamins in February for my one year follow-up.  But, so far so good. Keep up the good work - you look and must feel great. Hugs,  Lana

I talked to my Nut today.  With taking Building blocks I only have to take the 2 pills. No extra B-12. With Building blocks it is in the Multi and your bady is able to absorb it. yea!
