I suffered my first dumping syndrome occurence today.    Now I feel tired and run-down.  Is this run-down feeling usual afterwords? Is there any one thing to do for yourself later in the day after an occurence to help your stomache and stabilize the exhausted feeling? Protein shake? Tks, Beca

Beca what in the world did you eat that caused you to dump at this stage of your recovery? Arent you still on soft foods?

I have never had a dumping occurenance due mainly to the fact that i never , never eat anything that isnt on my list of things i can eat.

From what i understand yes it i normal to feel weak and shaky afterwards , most people go to bed and sleep i think. not real sure.

Sorry that you feel like you do. bless your heart. Jan

Jan, I made soupy (milky) oatmeal for breakfast......made it with a bit of butter, equal sweetner and skim milk.........I was surprised also.....as I thought all of these things would be ok.   I didn't have anything to drink either. The only thing that I can think that caused it is that maybe I ate too much or too fast.    Bummer. Beca

Beca..... You might be dealing with some issues from the milk and/or the butter.  Some folks that are very early out will find that they present as lactose intolerant.  For some, this turns out to be transitory in nature and they will be able to consume dairy based products again somewhere down the line.   When I was a new postop I thankfully didn't have any of the lactose issues but I DID have problems with oils/butters.  I still do to this day if I eat something that has alot of "oil" in it.   You might try the oatmeal with soymilk in it.  I have used the "silk" brand and it is good...and do it sans butter.  See if that is more palatable to the tummy... Hope you are feeling better now though!!!  Dumping is not fun... and when I have dealt with it I just relax and either go to sleep (if I can) or just laze about on the sofa and just rest.  It makes you feel SOOOOOOOO flooby afterwards doesn't it? Beca, Bet it was the milk but I couldn't have oatmeal that early out.  Just basically clear liquids and shakes.  So maybe the oatmeal got you.  Also, if I eat too fast it doesn't set well.  I've never dumped.  Like Jan, I just don't eat anything I'm not sure about but I understand your confusion.  That didn't sound that bad.   Hugs, Lana

Thanks for your care and advice! Yes, this afternoon I went back to the basics of  clear liquids.......then this evening I had one of my protein shakes...which went down well and I think having the protein helped to make me feel less "tired out". I feel much better now! Take care all, Beca
