New show: big medicine

Did anyone get a chance to see this new show on TLC Monday?  I did, and although I plan to watch it again...I was a little disappointed in the actual reality they were showing.  It has a women at about 400 pounds, hates sex(due to her wt of course), she has surgery, and 6 months later it shows her in bars with friends, drinking, dancing around and men flirting with her.  She dropped wt and now she enjoys life and sex.  They did not show her recovery, her new diet,  any sacrifice she had made!  I think this is why people get the idea we take an easy way out!  Then they had this real cute young girl that had major excessive skin after losing 200 pounds.   They did a TT, boobs, arms, and I think her thighs all in one PS!  Then she comes into the office wearing a bikini and happy.  Well, again...no recovery shown.  I am now 5 weeks out after thigh and arm lift, and still in pain, exhausted, and being drained weekly.  I am not no way near wanting to wear little cute clothes showing anything off!  Just wondering others opinion.

Hi Monique, I loved the show-as far as showing the before and afters, but I do agree about them not showing enough of the recovery and making it look oh, so simple - the worst thing I saw there was the 400 # lady (Penelope) at her 1 week saying she didnt feel good and couldnt have said she would do it again-at which point my hubby looked at me and said-that sounds familiar....I couldnt OR wouldnt have recommended this surgery to ANYONE the first 6 weeks or so.  They have a website on TLC specifically about that show now-have you thought about going on and posting this concern? You did bring up a good point-and I really hadnt thought that much about it until you said something, but you are right-I bet that IS why a lot of people think its the easy way out-because they only see the positives of the surgery and none of the negatives...well, the hanging skin, but there again, we didnt see her post op, like seeing you at the meeting and knowing how much pain and agony you were in!! Like any surgery, it all comes with a cost....I believe that IF a lot of people followed us from the actual seminar-through ALL the hoops and not JUST the surgery, but the recovery and ALL post op visits, dumping, vomitting the protein, vitamins, dizziness, emotions and then the saggy skin etc-Its not like we go into this life saving surgery going-I cant wait for all my skin to hang and my boobs to look like a flat straw with a wrinkled up nipple on the end-ya know? Or what did you call them? Bohemian Tribe boobs? Whatever you said-it cracked me up.....But-its so true. We have a LONG road ahead of us-and those of us who undergo the PS have even more risks and recoveries-and if not, we get to keep being embaressed/ashamed or uncomfortable with all the extra skin....Its no wonder they think that its the easy way out-but I know I feel better emotionally-and havent been this small in 27 years-and still feel uncomfortable with my body image and the skin...... Ok-off my soapbox-LOL...I sure hope you feel better soon!! Take care and see ya at the meeting. All my love and prayers-Janet

Hey I watched that too. I couldn't agree more. Yeah that is nice that she feels better about herself and stuff----but that is a given (normally)--you will feel better about yourself...but I would have liked to have seen recovery and stuff like that. I couldn't believe she was only 6 months out and drinking alcohol already! My dr.'s office says 1 year and at that no heavy drinking. Oh well, she stretches her pouch then that is what happens. I also believe that gives those out there that are post op or even pre-op for that matter the wrong impression of how to be after surgery (drinking alcohol, leaving our loved ones, etc). You know maybe her relationship went into the gutter after surgery (because she changed personality wise) and that is sad when that happens or maybe it was before. Who knows? My fiance` thinks I will leave once I lose this weight. HELLO? No, he is the only one I want. I have told him that til I am blue in the face. Anywho, I also had the thought that maybe they did not have time to add the recovery time for the show? Isn't this a new show? Maybe they wanted to "get their feet wet" to see how people would like it first? I hope they keep the show on but ask for comments. Cheryl

i am not in pain like I was.  I still have bad days, and it amazes me how easily I get tired.  When I get off work I am exhausted!  My left knee still drains constantly, and swells up like a baseball every day when I am up on my feet.  I get drained once a week at the dr office, and they started me on antibiotics again, and put a stitch in my knee hoping that would stop the constant draining, but it just slowed it down.  I would do it again though!  Not too sure if I would do the arms again... but I wore a tank top for the first time this weekend  in public...just kinda kept my arms down so the scar would not show.
