Lost Hope

I am so very upset! I got a call earlier from the Kansas Bariatric Center at Shawnee Mission stating that they received my paperwork and was sorry to inform me that they do not accept my insurance which is Humana Choice PPO (a medicare replacement). In the seminar I was told that they took Humana and the hospital does just not the surgeons which really sucks and is so unfair. They said if they took medicare they would be out of business in a matter of 3 months. Is it our fault that medicare doesn't pay their extremely high prices. I took out this supplemental insurance plan because I thought it would be better than the straight medicare but now I'm getting punished for it so it seems. I could pay $6,000.00 up front and then they would do it and if medicare paid more than $4800 they would reimburse me. If I had $6000.00 i would do it but I'm on disability I don't have that kind of money sitting around. When I decided to have the surgery in April I was so happy and felt like I now had hope and wasn't depressed anymore now I feel like all my hope is gone and I'm feeling extremely depressed again. I don't know what to do now the other surgical place that I called near me doesn't accept my medicare replacement insurance and says no one around me does.... So now what do I do? I feel so helpless and I can't stop crying. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. Bev~

Have you tried Dr. Hornbostel in Sedalia? He takes Medicare I know. Hugs and keep trying. Lana

I am going to try him however he is out of state for me cause I live in Kansas so I don't know if I can get my insurance to pay that but they said demographics didn't matter if out of state was the only one I could get to do the surgery. I don't know I just don't want to get my hopes up again only to be totally let down like I was today that really bothered me.

A friend of mine had Gastric Bypass through Bothwell hospital/Dr. Hornbostel and she had Humana insurance. I believe she had a struggle getting her insurance and the hosptial to come to some sort of understanding... but they did. She had her surgery a 2-3 yrs ago. Good luck Bev. Denise

Bev, I agree Dr. Hornbostel is a good choice. Iam sure you can use Medicare there even though you live out of state. Medicare is Federal and Medicaid is State Iam thinking. But, you can ask all the post ops here. Lost Hope is not in our vocabulary. LOL...I did say that too and I cried and cried and thought my life was over with. I wont go into all of it but I also struggled and so did many others here. But, we hung in there and kept going and God helped us through. Don't cry, lift your head up and Tell Jesus you need his help and go on to the next doctor. It is so worth it. Really it is. When you finally have your WLS, you will look back and be able to come to the board and help others and tell them of your experience. You call Dr. Hornbostels office and talk to them. Iam sure you will find out alot of info. hang in there and God Bless you Craig Lee
