Andrea, I'll give you my standard answer!!! Call the insurance, ask to speak to someone who is responsible for Bariatric surgery decisions. If you find someone nice, get their name so you can continue to contact them personally. Be extremely courteous, they are very busy and used to getting yelled at so niceness disarms them sometimes. Ask for an explanation of your denial, explain that you are requesting a life-saving surgery, stress co-morbidities that you may have (diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, urinary incontinence, hypercholesteral). Don't stress lifestyle difficulties too much, they like medical problems more. Keep stressing that your Doctors believe you should have this surgery. Keep saying it is life-saving surgery for you. Just try to get a toe in the door. If they soften up at all ask what steps you need to take to get an appeal written that would be satisfactory. Sometimes they will help you. They're not heartless, just doing their job too. Hugs and good luck, Lana

Has your primary done a letter of "Medical Necessity"? If you also have osteoarthritis, is another one most insurance companies accept for approval. Good luck and keep us posted. Charlotte
