I am soooo dissapointed in myself
So today is the first day that I tried to do the liquid diet. I was doing good---well fairly good until like 8pm. This morning I had a can of chicken broth for breakfast and then a slim fast shake for lunch that I add a couple frozen strawberries to in the blender to give it a lil flavor and some splenda--then had some pickle juice (I am trying to like make all my food intake like go in get the nutrients and get out---pickle juice helps me have ummm loose stools) I was really hungry so I ate a grapefruit a lil while later I ate the pickle---then about 7 I had another slim fast shake with the splenda and frozen strawberries. At 8 I was like OMG I'm starving---I ate 4 pieces of summer sasauge and 4 slices of cheddar cheese. I am so flippin dissapointed in myself. I thought I could do it---grrrrrrrrrr I am trying to tell myself that it's ok that I didn't have any carbs and that I really didn't eat much and I'm ok. But I am sooooo mad at myself. I want to be all ohh rahh and hard core about this and I'm weak---I just need some input on what you guys think. No one told me to do this liquid diet thing I just know that in order to get the surgery I have to lose 80 lbs and so I am doing this method of all liquids one day and carb counting the next day small meals 2 no carb snacks then back to liquid so on and so forth. I don't want to loose it too fast because I'm afraid I won't be able to keep the weight off until my surgery date --- which I don't have and don't even have a initial counseltation scheduled yet because my primary wants a stress test and echocardiogram before he'll write the letter. Also my primary told me I can't loose 80 lbs by September and that 20 or 30 max is what he thinks I can do---but I want to do it!!!!!!!! I want to be totally ready for surgery by the time I go for my first couseltation. I dunno I'm just feeling frustrated and mad at myself---grrrrrrr!!!
Always,
~Angie!
ohhh please dont beat yourself up!
it is hard! its the hardest thing you will have to do.
has the doctor put you on slimfast? I have had issues in the past with it...making my body feel dehydrated even with drinking alot of water and I drink alot of water.
close to if not a gal a day.
I have been doing the protien drink in the morning made with skim milk
and have found myself not so "hungry" early in the day.
your stomach is large and if it doesnt feel full its going to crave
increase the water..drink till you feel like you will float away...
I have not started my liquid diet for the surgery yet but the things you said is how I will be feeling!! but all you can do is the best you can....if you fail one day...just try again. and again and again
any amount you loose is better than nothing! if it were easy we would need WLS
now quit beating yourself up and do better tomorrow.
and start your day with Protein! it will give you energy!
good luck!

Angie
Okay first off dont beat yourself black and blue over today. Next no wonder you had to eat you didnt have really nothing that was going to stick with ya sweetie. You had 1 cn broth, 2 shakes, few strawberry's. Then you went to a pickle & grapefruit before you ate sauage & cheese. Sweetie you cant do it that way. You wont stay on it for long if you do. If your going to go b*ll's to the wall ALL LIQUID. Then you need to have at the minimum of 5 shakes a DAY!!!! Thats not includeing: Sugarfree Jello, Sugarfree popsycles, Broth, Coffee, Sugarfree Koolaide, SugarFree Tea, Flavor Water (not carbonated), Crystal light, ect. And that is pretty much as much as you want it when you want it. I use to take SF Koolaide and blend with ice from sonic or anywheres really and make slushies. Mmm
But noone not ever Dr. H I am sure would expect you to do it the way you were trying sweetie. If that was the case that Loser's Bench would be awfully lonely!!! Now this is all stuff that I was told by my Nut (Nutricianist at my Dr.'s office) And then if you still are feeling hungry then add a shake until you can maintain that satisfied feeling. Also there is no need for pickle juice. Oh I like it too but you dont have to rush anything thro your body to get it out. TRUST ME!!!! You going all liquids it WILL HAPPEN on it's own!!! I hope this info helps you out sweetie. And dont beat yourself up over this Knowledge is POWER!!!!
Take Care
Mel
Thanks for the encouraging words Mel--you're really a sweet girl. What do you think about me doing liquid every other day and very low carb smart meals with 2 no carb snacks on the opposite days??? I was thinking that would give me energy and I could swim on the days I eat food. I dunno I just want something that is going to work for me ya know??? Thanks for your advice it's all very gladly welcomed. I haven't gotten protein shakes yet I did get slim fast but can't afford the protein yet---but I am working on getting some asap.
Always,
~Angie!
Here's to you for trying!
I found a very inexpensive protein powder, each drink has 23 g of protein, at walmart for $12 for a big cannister. The chocolate if fabulous!
Lots of jello and popsicles. Carry around a jug of water, drink drink drink!
Broth is ok to help you get some flavoring of some food, but honestly, the protein drinks are what's going to keep you full and energized if the all liquid is what you are going to do!
I'm rooting for you!

Hi Angie.
Everyone is right with what they are telling you and I definately agree with Mel, no wonder you were starving. Listen to her she really helped me, expecially with those "snow cones"!!!! I felt like I was really eating something with that "crunch, crunch, crunch, LOL. Also Lana also told me she drained the juice off regular broth like soups and just ate the broth. My fav. was french onion, yummy! Good luck and hang in there. Susan

Angie,
Another thing you might want to try is 3-4 protein drinks, lots of water, popcicles etc like Melissa suggested and then one very protein dense, low calorie meal a day. We're talking low-fat cottage cheese, white meat chicken, boiled or broiled, hard boiled or scrambled eggs, one of those choices with no bread, crackers, white potatoes, rice, pasta basically anything white. That one meal tasted so good to me even if it was bland and uninteresting. You can make deviled eggs if you like them with light mayo and mustard. Tuna is also good with light mayo, celery salt and dill.
I would find it easier to eat one light meal a day rather than three meals every other day but you have to know your own body and what would work for you. I do know that before surgery is a good time to start to practice small bites, portion control and not drinking with meals. But, as mentioned, if we all were good at this we wouldn't need surgery!!! Hugs, prayers and good luck,
Lana
