Pre-op Vitamins
From reading post and listening to others advise I have heard that I should start taking some of the required vitimins now. Can anyone suggest what vitimins that I should be taking now and what brand is the best? I want to do everything I can to make this journey a little easier.
Thanks for all your help.
Hello Beverly...my name is Debbie
Welcome to the Missouri Board!
I, myself had lapband surgery on 01-26-07 and am feeling great! I take Centrum Silver and Caltrate plus D two times a day. I have heard others say they take prenatal vitamins. All I can really say is everyone is different and has different needs. Different doctors say different things. Dr. Malley in KC said to take 2 Flinstone chewables twice a day. It also depends on which surgery you have. Find out what everyone uses on here, find out what your doctor wants you to do and then you have all the info you need to make your own, final decision. Hope that helps, good luck and if you need more help, we here! May God Keep Blessing you today and right on through your surgery Beverly! Deb M
Hi Deb, thanks for the great information. I am wanting to have the RNY so I have heard that you require more vitamins. I plan on having it at Shawnee Mission Medical Center by Dr. Hohen. I am very excited about it and can't wait to have a new lease on life. I am currently doing a 6 mo. dr. supervised diet so therefore I have a ways to go! I just want to do everything right and try to make this journey a little more bearable. It sounds like your surgery was a success and that your doing good so that's a blessing. Thanks again for responding and making me feel wecome here.

Hi Beverly so glad to see you on the boards and welcome.
I think if you have been taking the vits for awhile before surgery you just have your self in better shape for the surgery also i started drinking protein shakes about 2 months before every day. That way my body had a good supply of protein to heal on when i had surgery.
Dont know if all of that is why i healed so fast or not but I almost didnt know i had had surgery.
Welcome and come back often Jan
Jan,
That is great that you healed so quickly I will remember that. What kind of protein shakes did you drink, I'm just curious to know? I want to start taking my vitamins as well I want to be in the best shape possible before I under go this surgery I think that's important. Thanks again for the advise.

Hi... I got all my vitamins pre-op too. I like the One Source Exrtra Value size (Active Kids) Gummie Bear chewable vitamins. There are 150 gummies in the jar, the flavors vary - and I can hardly tell they are vitamins these days. (I LOVED gummies) and these don't taste that different than the real ones. I take GNC Chewable Calcium 600 with vit. D and Boron for improved utilization. (these taste like giant sweet tarts) Then I take Biotin so I don't lose my hair? (don't know if this works but I'm willing to chance it. I Stocked up on lots of SF Jello for the first week) and SF Pudding (for the second week) I crushed up all my regular drugs from my primary care Doc in a small portion of the pudding - pills don't taste so bad in pudding) I have a bunch I HAVE to take daily so crushed is terrible (by my second visit I pleaded with my doc to just let me cut my pills in half instead of crushing them Gawd they taste bad!!!) so I guess that's what I take daily - and YES I did start doing this before my surgery on March 9th 2007... I just had my 6 weeks check up and I'm down 34 lbs from my surgery weight..

Patricia,
Thanks for the great information I too want to start taking Biotin in hopes that it helps with the hair loss. Loosing my hair worrys me I already have thin hair so I don't need to lose anymore...lol When I get paid this week I'm going to go out and buy all my vitimains and start taking them. The gummies seem like a good idea might have to try them?
