I have not had surgery yet but have heard that there is some hair loss? As someone in the process of getting approved for surgery is there anything pre-op you can do to help with the hair loss? Thanks for all your help with newbies....

Dear Beverly, I was told to start my vitamins pre-op. I started taking a One a day AND Biotin-and the Biotin is suppose to help with the hair loss-I started in August. I had my surgery 11/29/06 and as of today-have lost roughly half my hair. My hair used to be so very very thick-and to the middle of my back. I do my protein shakes, I do my water and liquid-and most days exceed the minimum requirements-and also excercise-and I still have lost 1/2 my hair-just in the past 2 months. I was assured it was not permanent. I know others who have had the surgery and not lost as much as myself-so I guess its just one of those questions~~ I was told I could buy any kind of fish oil vitamins and or one called hair, skin and nails. Hope this helps. I truley love my hair and have been a little more than worried about it-but I would do the surgery all over again-AND my hair will grow back.....(have lost 134# to date-RNY) Good luck sweety. Love and prayers. Janet

I too have lost a lot of hair , I started all of my vits and extras way before surgery and i too like Janet have lost a lot I now have mine cut really short while the rest of it grows out to meet it. My beautician has assured me that i have lots and lots of baby hair in there growing. I also have noticed that it seems like that the people that have long long hair lose more or maybe it just seems like it because their hair is long. But rest assured it will grow back. So the question is hair and fat or thin and losing hair. I will take bald and thin any day. I can buy a wig if it would happen to come to that. LOL Welcome Beverly glad to have you on board. Jan
