WILD CRITTERS

Man, if this hasn't been the strangest week for animals!!..lol We have all kinds of critters that run our property but Spring is in the air and they aren't thinking too clearly! We now have a red fox who has made herself a den on our back hill. We will soon have little foxes, I assume. My big ol groundhog is still living back there too, they are neighbors...lol Yesterday, I opened up the house to air it out will all the sickness thats been in here, it was needed! While the house was open I had two wrens fly in and tried to make theirselves at home. Wyno was going nuts! I think she thought she was gonna whoop on them....lol They kept trying to fly out my kitchen window (huge window) and it was closed and even if it was open, theres a screen there! They kept doing this and every time they hit the window and then fell into all my little plants and sprouts I have sitting there...some plants I doubt will survive. I finally got them out of here but not before I pulled most of the tail feathers out of one of them...hey the poor thing was so scared I had to catch it quick or it would of died from a heart attack, it was already wore out. I grabbed a dish towel and threw it over her, wrapped her up and got her out of here...she laid on my porch swing for the longest time but finally flew off and it didn't look like the loss of tail feathers bothered her one bit. This chase and capture caused me to go into a major coughing spell! Making a note to self....don't chase critters around while recovering from pneumonia! I will be fine....haven't done that much cardio tho all year!....lol Today my oldest son came by and let me know that HIS dog that we are allowing to stay here (she stays on the back side of the property so his dog and my dogs aren't barking at each other all the time****il he gets settled in somewhere, is PREGNANT! To top it off, the boy doesn't have a clue about pregnant dogs and thinks I'm going to do all the grunt work...pun intended...lol I could tell he was worried about her so I had him go get her so I can take a look see! Yep...she's preggers and gonna pop anytime! As I'm looking this dog over, I'm thinking that I had asked Roy if she was pregnant when he asked me if she could stay here. His answer was, no....that she had just gone through being in heat and no males had been around! Now, I'm hearing their were males around, big males and this dog isn't that big. Roy has no idea who the daddy is, when they hooked up, how long a dog is pregnant for, how to go about helping with delivery....he knows absolutely nothing!! I had to break the news that he would have to do something with her because we have critters on this property that will kill her to get to those new pups! Hawks and owls are nesting all over our property, that fox will kill those pups and her and her family are just feet away from where Roy's dog is at. We have coyotes and bobcats too! That poor dog won't have a chance out there alone. I told Roy this when he asked if he could bring her here...the part about all the critters we share our property with. I'm thinking that the boy knew his dog got hooked up and would probably be pregnant. Before here she was staying at his ex-gf's house and she only has male dogs. Roy and her use to live together but when they broke up she was like us allowing Roy's dog to stay there until Roy got settled somewhere else. I'd say that after Roy's dog got bred, she told Roy to get her out of there. Sooo he comes here telling lies and playing me, knowing I have a soft spot of dogs asking is she could stay. I said no but David said yes! David is not going to be happy when he gets home tonight! Roy kept telling how he doesn't know anything about pregnant dogs and he has no idea what to do when it comes time...hint, hint Mom who was a breeder at one time! I told him that I have a book that he needs to look through and it will tell him what he needs to know and he needs to get busy with it because he doesn't have long (what?!?...Mom is going to take care of this problem for me?...ummmm, no!). Now between me and you guys if that dog has any problems I'm not going to let her suffer or die.....the ignorance of her owner is not her fault! I just think it's a good time for Roy to learn a few of life's lessons and helping to deliver pups will be VERY enlightening for him. It's called being a responsible pet owner! A lot of young people these days don't care much for that "R" word but if you want a dog you need to be able to handle the good with the bad...lol Now for my crazy dogs...I took Jake for his walk and let him go up to visit Gracee for awhile, they played together, all was fine then I turn around and Gracee is eye to eye with me but she's not standing on her hind legs...she was jumping, straight up in the air! I guess she was happy for the visit...lol I stand 5'5" and this dog was using all four legs to jump straight up into the air and she did this several times. Jake just sat down and watched her like he's too cool to act that silly...yea right!! All this just shows me that God has "post it notes" with a sense of humor too! (Referring to a post I sent earlier!) Well, time for Jake to eat some more hotdogs I will check back later! Love & Prayers, Deb M
