Personal question..
Hi everyone, I am in desperate need of advise. What is the best fast acting laxative on the market. I've tried these "gentle overnight relievers" and it just isn't cutting it. Any suggestions? I have never had this problem before..... any advise is sooooo appreciated. I think I need a bomb or something...

Tara - this won't work overnight BUT... if you eat a Yogurt everyday THAT will help get you regular... I eat Dannon Light & Fit - Just BE SURE the yogurt you eat contains the ACTIVE yogurt Culture L. Acidophilus (some of the more popular yogurts don't have the active culture and they won't do you a bit of good.) I also take Miralax daily which really works if you have a long term problem (I used to have an internal morphine pump implanted in my body) Miralax is cool because you can't taste it at all in warm liquids like Cocoa or coffee - it's just sweeter than usual. If you need an overnight type laxative - I suppose any overnight generic laxatives should work. Sorry you have troubles - I'm postive if you start eating a yogurt a day IT will help you, so you don't get backed up again.

Tara....what about the Magnesium Citrate that the docs have us take before surgery? It's cheap and you can get it at walmart. It comes in a green glass bottle and is on the bottom shelf where the other laxitives are stocked. Get it COLD first cause it don't taste like candy...lol Really, it's not too bad...kinda like a lime drink.
If your that back up, I would try a stool softener a few hours before though, if not....it might hurt a little!
Another suggestion...enema! There are several to choose from but any will work. I was in the hospital YEARS AGO after I had a gran mal seizure brought on by demerol for a migraine. The hospital was Cox medical center down in Springfield. They put me in a room and forgot about me...I laid in that bed for a week without a doc coming in to see me and I was afraid to get up too much because I had, had a seizure and had never had one before and didn't know what to expect. I got out of bed to pee and that was it....well, needless to say I got really backed up! The doc that finally came in was sooo ticked because they had lost me in the files and had totally forgot about me. I was getting food sent to my room and got meds when I needed them but that was it. No family, no friends in the area...nothing. My point is, to punish the nurses for forgetting about me, he orders a clear water enema for me...thanks doc! I wasn't happy about that but hey I felt great after they were done! I got to go home the next morning...imagine that!
Good Luck Tara! Deb M
Hello dear friend, You know you are supposed to ask the dr before taking a laxative...my instructions are to not take them at all. I have started taking stool softeners. Can you or do you take Omega 3 or fish oil capsules? That is an excellent way to stay regular. I took 2 a day of those before surgery for the past year and was regular for the first time in my life....
I am having a few problems now and want to try to take them but am sorta afraid of the size of the pill yet.
Guess what? My Dr called awhile ago and they have decided to remove the drain when I go up on Friday!!!!!!!! Yeah! They have rechecked all my ct scans and other xrays and say that it looks like the best option. Sugar
Sugar free popsicles kept me regular in the early stages! lol but some do not tolerate those well. Once you get this bowel moving, to keep it moving I take a stool softener(DSS) and on Flax oil capsule every morning with b-fast and every night at bedtime. I've not had trouble since doing that except when I travel.....I always get backed up when traveling so I up my doses of the above then.
Tara, don't know if you can handle it but when I had my hysterectomy, constipation was a big problem for me. An old nurse told me to mix 1 cup of applesauce, a 1/2 cups of raisins and a small can of mandarin oranges(drained). Put them in a blender and blend until smooth. Then eat about a couple of tables spoons each day. It may not take that much after the first initial dose. But it worked fast for me and it didn't bother me as bad as regular laxatives do. Hope this helps. The plus side is it's all natural. The down side is, I haven't had WLS yet so don't know if you can tolerate the sweetness. Casey.
