Cyndi, I haven't heard about this clinic but someone on here probably has. I know most surgeons and especially anesthesiologists want you to quit smoking before surgery. And, plastic surgeons say smoking inhibits healing and causes wrinkles. I quit years ago and have never been sorry. However, I also know how hard it is. I loved cigarettes. Please keep posting and let us help you along on your journey. We are always here for you. Hugs and love, Lana

Lana, Congrats on the quitting smoking. I don't know if my surgeon requires it (I think he does), but I have also heard that smokers are at risk for blood clots in the lungs during and after surgery. I really don't want to quit (it is such a good friend), and the thought of trying to lose weight AND quit smoking really freaks me out, but I want to do it anyway. How did you do it? Did you use anything like nicorette gum, aricular therapy, hypnosis or did you do it cold turkey?

Jennifer, I actually quit cold turkey. I was sort of a closet smoker, as if you can hide that smell from your friends!!! Anyway, I never smoked in the morning before work or at work, started when I left the office and smoked all evening. I met my now husband and his wife had died from lung cancer and after I got serious about him I thought I just couldn't put him through that again so I just quit. I think the gum or patches are probably good and my best friends daughter took Wellbutrin to get her over the rough spots, however, she has started up again. It's a wicked addiction, as bad as food I think!!! Good luck, I"ll pray for strength for you. Hugs and love, Lana

Thanks, Lana, That is sooo admirable, Lana Unfortunately, my husband smokes too. We are both heavy smokers and have only tried to quit together once. It lasted 2 weeks and we were cranky the whole time. Rob became very depressed as well. I have been smoking for a little less than 30 years. He has been smoking for a little nearly 40! Cigarettes SHOULD be easier to quit than food problems. With food, you still have to eat, but it is still so tough for me to quit smoking. My biggest problem is that neither Rob nor I want to quit. We just want to want to quit. (make any sense?) I tried Wellbutrin about 5 years ago and the Dr. forgot to tell me the suicide is a potential side effect! I am glad I had a good support system to watch me and get me off of it because my mind was starting to thing strange things like that. I have heard of a new drug that begins with a C and has an X in it, but I can't remember the name. I think we will do everything all at once: hypnosis, aricular therapy, nicorette gum and whatever else we can come across. Perhaps if we attack it together we can make it. Anyone else have any suggestions to add to our arsenal?
