I'm a patient of Dr. Scott's and while I am lowering my BMI before surgery I only had to go do my relapse prevention and impulse control with a psychiatrist, the people Dr. Smith's office recommended wasn't approved under my insurance and so it's taken me sometime to find someone, when I called to someone in my area, I was told the psychiatrist knew what it was and able to do it for me. Well I went to see her today and guess what? she wasn't aware of what relapse and impulse was and told me I would have to come to her several times and it would probably take months, even though I told her my paper stated a minimum of 30 mintues was needed, well she doesn't see it that way and now I can't get her to give me a paper stating I was there to see her for relapse and impulse control. I was wondering if anyone had trouble finding a psychiatrist to do this, everyone I have called or got from my insurance company, have no idea what Dr. Scott wants or doesn't want to deal with this. They all tell me they'll do my peroperative psychological evaluation, but that's already done.

Jamie hang in there. I've got to have a psyc eval but I don't know who is approve and the hospital is 6.5 hours away. Due to insurance. I also will need a dr to do my fills close. The insurance company make you jump hoops. And have the Dr.'s office to fax the requirement to the Psychiatrist's office then they will not have to guess. You will get thru this and you have a lot of support on board Audrey

I'd suggest you research this topic on the net.....then go to a provider approved by ins and tell them what you KNOW about this subject, how much you've learned etc......then they can just write on the paper that you are informed on this etc........that's the sort of thing I did...I just made it clear before I went in for the appt, EXACTLY what I needed and was in and out in 45 mins. A one time visit. Some are trying to build their practice, getting repeat visits but you may not need more than one. It sounds like Dr Scott's office needs to communicate with MORE providers as well so that his pts have options as to what shrink they will see and when they do go, the shrink knows what to cover and how. Have you told Dr Scott the trouble you are having? His person he recommended may be who you'll have to go to even though it's not covered by ins. GOOD LUCK! Tami

Thanks guys for your help. I have called Dr. Scott's office and talked to many people and asked if they had a list of questions the psychiatrist could ask me, but was told they only had one for the peroperative evaluation, when I call people to do the relapse prevention and impulse control session they think I want a evalution to have the surgery and I have to explain I've already done that with Dr. Bumby and this is something different I am required to do, and I went to a lady in Sedalia, MO who claimed she would do it and when I got there she didn't know anything about it, but didn't tell me that until after the session and claimed I would have to come to several appointments and the minmium required is 30 mins. So I will probably have to go back to Dr. Bumby even though she's not covered by my insurance and get this over with. Again thanks for the help.
