WHAT DO I EAT?????
Just wanted to catch everyone on my progress. This is my third week, I have had a sinus infection since I came home, SOOOO I never am hungry, nothin tastes good I can't think of anything that sounds good.
I know I am not drinking or eating enough, I don't like soup. Anyone have any suggestions as what I might eat?? So far nothing that I have eaten has made me sick.
I can't seem to get my energy back. Any Suggestions??
Thanks Cathy
are you doing your protein shakes? how much protein are you doing a day? what about cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, oats, cream of wheat, mashed sweet potatoes, s.f. pudings, s.f. jello, does that help.you have nev er like soups??? or now you dont like soup
try making your own and put it thru a blender and make it creamy. oh i forgot week three maybe no on the scrambled eggs yet. but the other stuff will work
as you get in more an dmore protein you will start feeling better. If you cant eat enough protein then drink it in protein shakes. wont hurt to do 3 a day as far as that goes.
How about your water intake. are you increasiing that daily.
you may be dehydrated or close to it. I know i still have to fight daily to get in all of my water. Good to hear from you. Jan
Jan, I have had eggs once, I have never liked soup, I try all kinds of soups and pudding and jello ' mashed potatoes, it seems once I start to eat them they taste awful, no I am not drinking enough, I have at least 1 protein drink a day. I am going to find something to eat , even had chili from Steak & Shake, it was good and caused no problems, may get some more.
Thanks Cathy
The only thing I can remember tasting good to me in the begining was... Taco Bells pinto and cheese which is 4 oz and nothing but protein. And steak and shakes chilli. Mashed potatoes was ok once in a while. I could not enjoy eggs until about my 8th month they would just make me sick
Your tastes will change too..what you liked before surgery you may not like now and vice versa so keep trying.
Good luck!
hugs,
Anna

You've got to remember to eat to feed your body so that it will not store your fat, but instead will burn your fat. Don't not eat because of taste, eat because you have to feed your engine which is your body.
Things will eventually taste better, but it will never be quite the same as it was before. I still don't really have any hunger, but know that I need to eat. Hang in there.

Hi Cathy,
I will be five weeks out tomorrow so the soft food stage is not that far behind me. I really liked cottage cheese and yes those pinto and cheese from Taco Bell are great. It does get better. I'd focus on your water and protien for now. Those are the 2 most important things at this stage. I still struggle with getting in all I need.
Are you taking B-12? That really helped me with energy. I try to make sure I get my vitamins and B-12 everyday.
Keep trying it gets better.
Hope your sinuses get better soon

Not only are you dealing with a sinus infection that tremendously skews your taste ...but I will wager that you are probably dealing witb ketosis (brought on by the initial massive shift - weight loss).. during this phase alot of folks have the utmost PUCKY taste in their mouths. Some say it tastes metallic...others describe it as being a bit different but EVERYONE agrees on the the fact that it is horrid. It can make eating a chore as you don't want anything ...nothing tastes good, etc.
I would encourage you to mix some protein powders (there are several to choose from) in your foods. Puddings, mashed potatoes, refried beans, etc. It is IMPERATIVE that you get your protein in and get adequate fluids. You can become dehydrated very quickly and some folks end up back in the hospital dealing with dehyrdration badly enough that they need I.V. therapy.
Dehydration can also make you feel incredibly lethargic and sluggish. This is on top of the normal recuperative issues that are faced with having major surgery in the first place.
Please take care of yourself and continue working on your fluid and protein issues. You might find yourself in a situation where you just have to buck up and just eat when you don't feel like it.
DON'T STOP SIPPING YOUR FLUIDS EITHER!!!
Best wishes....
