8 days to go...

I have been watching this web site and enjoy reading everyone's post. I am schedualed for surgery on March 27th, with Dr. Roger De La Torre, with MO Bariatric Service in Columbia MO. I have my final appointment with him on Thursday. I am starting to get to the nervous part of time right before surgery. I have been on the liquid diet now for 14 days. I have lost 13 lbs for ever... I know this is the right thing for me to do for myself, but my family is not dealing with it very well. This causes me to reconsider my thoughts. My husband is fully supporting me, it's my parents, brother and sister that have the issues. I just keep telling myself that this is going to make me feel so much better and I will be able to live a longer healthier life. Please take a minute in the next few days and say a prayer for my surgeon and his team and myself, as I embark on this new journey of life. Thank you for all your inspiration and knowledge. I am sure as I get started down this new path, I will have lots of questions for you. Susan

the prayers are being said now. and why not come on more between now and surgery time. sounds like you can use all the support you can get. If your hubby is supportive then dont worry about the rest. I too have a daughter and a brother that werent supportive at all and still think i will fail . but that is ok they arent me Jan

I wish you great luck in your surgery and hope everything goes well for you. I have a very supportive family, but so far my hubby is not happy with my wanting surgery and since being on a liquid diet now for 11 days he keeps telling me I don't have to do this I choose to do it and he likes me fat. So I hope in time your family will come around and give you the support you need. But it's great your hubby is there for you.

Jamie, It may be that your hubby is frightened of the surgery. He also may be frightened that you will change and no longer want to be married to him. These are common fears that many spouses have. Just don't let it sway you from your goal and keep reassuring him that the inside you will not change, just that the outside will be healthier and happier and able to live a more normal life. Ask him specifically why he doesn't want you to have the surgery. The answer may surprise you both. Hugs and prayers. Lana

Susan, I think we had class together the other day. Don't let anybody change your mind if this is what you've decided to do. My family gave me some issues as well, but they now understand this will make me healthier and much happier. I will keep you in my prayers and I'll visit you in the hopsital when I'm up and walking around!! Keep the faith!! Richelle

I forgot to ask you what time your appointment was, as my last appointment with him is on Thursday, too!!! Maybe I'll see you at the office and at the hospital when I'm doing preop!! Richelle

Hey Richelle, Hope you are doing well. I've been thinking about you since Thursday. Was you as over whelmed by everything? I came out of there tired. So much information to digest. My appointment on Thursday is 9:30. I will get there around 9:00. I am so ready to get on with this. Then I head over to hospital for pre-op visit, then up to 5th floor for cancer study information. They choose me to be in that study, so I have to give some more blood. This weekend was so hard for the liquid diet thing. I did good the first weekend. I keep thinking it was the weather. I look forward to seeing you. Keep me up todate on your progress.

Susan, I am only 2 days behind you. Hard to keep the nerves in check. But it will be here before you know and you will feel good about your choice. I will have you in my prayers and I hope that with your weight loss your family will see how much more healthy and happy you are in get on board. I am sure they are just worred about you. GOOD luck and God Bless Shawn

Hi Susan, welcome to our group. I'm sorry about your family, but with your husband's support you need to do what's right for you. Fortunately my family is supportive, however, I'm not sure how our 3 y/o grandson will feel not having gram as a pillow any longer (see my profile pic). Actually, it was that picture that made the decision for me. I want to be more than a pillow for my family, and with all the co-morbidites I have I knew it was time to begin the weight loss journey. If you need support or a kind work, this is the place for you. Trudy
