I am really new...still working on paperwork!
Hello! I am Angel and I am trying to finish my paperwork so that I can get on with the process of getting my surgery. I am curious, once I get the initial paperwork done how long it will take me to get my surgery? I mean if all goes well? I am going to Dr. Scott in Columbia. I know that I will be having lots of questions as this process goes on and it is good to know that there are people here to come to.
Thanks
Angel
Welcome to the Missouri Board Angel. I didnt use Dr. Scott but a lot of people here did. and Im sure they will tell you the process that goes with him. I dont want to tell you something and not be right so Melissa, or Janet or Tammy or several others will be able to help you.
I just wanted to say Welcome and hope you come back often. I know you will have lots of questions. and most of them we can answer on here if not we will help you find the answer.
We care .....Jan
I to would like to welcome you to the Missouri Board and I concure with Jan on talking with Melissa, Janet and Tammy about Dr. Scott. Jan and I both went to Dr Hornbostel in Sedalia, he is a very good Dr. too!
Good Luck in your journey and if you ever have questions, concerns or just need a little support we all are here to help!
God Bless, Deb M.
Angel....Welcome to the board!!!!!
I am using Dr. Scott for my WLS. I really like him and he was great about answering my questions. I pretty much thought everyone at his office was nice.
There is no set time in how long it takes you to get things done to where the surgery date can be set. It depends on how far apart you appts are to get the different things done you need to do and after you do get it all done it will depend on how booked he is when they go to find a date for your surgery. Some people on here that I have read about has done their stuff and got a date in as little as 3 months.
I have found the best info and support coming here to the OH site. And have met some really great people...I'm sure Janet and Mel will be giving you a yell. They are both great about supporting people and they are using Dr. Scott as well.
Good luck on your journey. Give me a yell anytime you like...Hugs & Love...Tammy H.
Hi Angel,
I too went to MO Bariatrics-I had Dr. Fearing though, and Dr. Scott was her fellow in the operating room-as they always tag team you!! I personally know that ALL of the drs in that ofc are wonderful-I am partial to mine though, as she is my angel....(no pun intended)...I do love Dr. Scott as well-very knowledgable as well. Lets see-I went to my seminar in July of 06, I turned in my paperwork in August, had my intitial consult on Aug 29th with Fearing, and had my surgery November 29th 2006. I did ANY testing I could do at home through my PCP scheduling it all.....and only did the things they required done there-there. I recommend that to anyone-because the wait can be much longer if you have to have them schedule all the testing etc through their office as they try to coorespond your visits and testings on the same day you will be there. For me-it was a 4-5 hr drive one way, so....it got tiring-but I did have a girlfriend, Sherr who, from start to fini**** was 3 months for her as well....The sooner you get your packet turned in with the letter from your PCP-the sooner you will get your first appt and get the ball rolling!!
Thats what we are here for-to answer questions and give support. This board is wonderful for that-and becomes a safe haven.....When is the seminar? Are you going to the one in Springfield or up in Columbia? How far do you have to go to see them?
I will be praying for a speedy appt for ya! Just dont get discouraged and give up-it is SO WORTH IT-trust me!! Good luck and let us know how your doing, ok? Love, Janet

Hello Angel,
Welcome to the Missouri OH board. This is a wonderful place full of loving, caring, supportive people. We are truly like a big family but sometimes are more compassionate and understanding than actual family!!! Please continue to read and post and let us get to know you and support you too. Let us know where you live and we can probably direct you to a support group. But please keep us informed about your journey. It can seem awfully long and lonely without others to help you.
Hugs and love,
Lana
Thanks for such nice responses. I live in Greenwood MO just outside of Lee's Summit. I am about 2 1/2 hours away from Columbia. I don't know when I am going to a seminar because there isn't one that I know of scheduled for Columbia and when I talked to Patsy at the dr office she said nothing scheduled in the near future. I am curious though I went to my PCP and he said he had no problem having me do the surgery (he of course recommended someone else but said Dr. Scott was fine as well) what do I tell him I need to get this process going. I was told by the Nurse practioner that normally a letter was sent to my PCP and they would sign off on it. Do I need them to initiate the letter? Also I have a visit with my endocrinologist in April and I have to have my tyroid levels checked will that do if I have a copy sent to Depaul? Or will I need to have a seperate screening? Please let me know. Also if anyone here is in the KC Metro area and going through Dr. Scott's group can you tell me who you saw locally for the required exams? I want to see about making this as simple a process as I can. Thanks
Angel
If you are using Dr. Scott for surgery why go all the way to Depaul in St. Louis, He operates out of Columbia too. Just wondered since you are in Kansas City area. there is a great new support group in the blue spring area. it is listed here on this site under KCMetro support group. If you cant find it let me know will get Tony or Colette to email you right away. meeting is next monday night. Jan

Hi Angel,
I am going thru this process now. I have 8 days until surgery. I started my process with Missouri Bariatrics Services October 30 2006. So it's taken me a little less than 6 months. It seems at the time it's a very slow process, but it has gone faster for me than it has for others I know.
If you can get your Primary care phsician to order test for you. That is a big help. I had to have sleep study done, Pulmanary funtion test, blood work and stress test that was medically induced.
Dr Roger De La Torre is my primary surgeon and Dr Scott will be his tag team partner. I am having surgery on the 27th of March. I went to my option B class on Thursday. It was very informitive. I advise you to talk to Natalie. She is the nurse in the office and is a big help. Also Jennifer the dietician is also a big help to work with.
I kept calling every week to talk to the office staff to find out where I was and what I needed to do to get this process done faster. If you have any questions, let me know and I will be glad to answer them.
Susan
