I just move to missouri. I dont have any insurance as of now and I'm looking for work in my area. I have been trying to get private insurance and that have been givin me a headache. Some wont cover me and some will b/c of my height and wgt. Today I talk to an rep and he had made me really depress. He told me that, No insurance will cover wls (none). So I ask him my best bet is to get insurance threw a job and see if they do it then he said I guess so. I feel like evertime I wanna do something positive in my life there is always something. If anyone use private insurance and had there approve plz let me know or any advice that will help let me know. Thank You.

Barbara I dont have any information on the insurance except that if you are eligable for medicaide you they will pay for the surgery. Or at least i think they do. There are others on here that have had medicaide and they have gotten the surgery. Welcome to the board and hope you keep coming to this site. We love newbies and no question you have is silly that is for sure and someone will try to answer you . Jan

Hi Barbara, Welcome aboard. I too am wanting to have WLS. My employer won't pay for anything wls wise. So I would talk with employees of any place you want to apply for work to see if it does. There is currently a senate bill in the MO senate that will require Missouri insurance company's to cover wls. I urge you to register to vote and write or call your elected officials for your area. There is a post a few days old from Amy Haskett (insurance coverage) and it has a web site to connect to where you can find your elected officials. I urge everyone even if you have had wls to write their elected officials so that maybe we can get this passed. Again it is SN97 sponsered by Senator Days. Hope this helps. Casey.

Barbara, you are not in this fight alone! There are SEVERAL of us that are dealing with similer headaches and roadblocks right now. Casey is right, your voice is one of the best tools you have now....find out who your elected officals are and let them know how you feel!! In the mean time please keep posting on here, this is an amazing source of suppot and inspiration. I get a little discouraged and I read a few profiles and remember how great the final outcome will be. If you ever need to vent (and we all do) this is a great forum or you can contact me directly! Be strong!! Amy

Barbara, Private insurance policies won't cover WLS. Insurance thru a job or medicaid is your best bet if you cant self pay.I can tell you that in Joplin which I know is a bit of a drive there is a place that has been hiring that also has great insurance that covers WLS. It is called SST-Services and Sytems Technologies. It's a sit down job that starts at about $9.60per hr. day shift and $10.50per hr. night shift(12:00-9pm). It is collections so it's phone work but I've known of some very timid people who do very well there so it's not as scary as it seems. They have awesome benefits-lots of vacation time and stuff. Just an idea ... Hope it helps, Dannielle

Hi Barbara! LOT'S of us on this board don't have insurance... but most have either Medicaid or Medicare... I just had my WLS surgery last week after fighting with Humana (Medicare-part-D + Medicare insurance) I'm 57 and on disability. If you can get disability or Medicaid assistance then you may already be able to get Medicare/Medicaid help and/or retraining so you can go back to work... ? Check into help for re-training or check out Sugar's place that sounds like something do able maybe? Good luck - and keep us posted cause we all care and will try to offer help and suggestions to try. Take care! Pat B.

Hi Barbara -- Like everyone else, I don't have any experience with private insurance companies and WLS. Heck, it's hard enough getting approval for some with employer-furnished insurance. Don't give up. Keep in touch and if we can't answer questions you have, we will try and make you feel better as you jump through the hoops. Trudy
