protein question before PS
My body fights me every day to lose an oz, or better yet not to gain that week! I was down at one time to 156, and everyone told me I was way too skinny...which we all love to hear. I don't have that problem anymore with my wt at 175 now. Now you all know my weight...I am not embarrassed. But however...having my arms/thigh skin cut off should I maybe consider doing something drastic to lose some weight before the surgery? I mean drastic in doing nothing but protein drinks for 2 weeks before I go under the knife. Is this unhealthy or not? Chad said he would do it with me, but I will be so tempted to eat...not much different than now. I have been eating bad again for a few days...so I need to straighten up anyway. But the only question is the protein drink only before surgery. Good or bad idea?
Monique,
Now this is just my opinion but I really think after WLS we shoudl be done with teh crash dieting thing. It' snot healthy for us to eat bad then do somethign drastic to make up for what damage we've done. We just need to do it the right way once we realized what we've done wrong......it'll be a slower process but a healhtier one in the long run. I don't know abotu you....but this is how I know I'd be....if I went to only protein drinks I'd get grumpy and feel deprived and angry like I used to do pre-op when I'd try to lose weight on a new diet. I'd get MAD as heck when I could not have what I wanted. Instead (now it's just my opinion!) I would not have PS until I KNEW I was at the weight I wanted to be at. This isn't saying NO to PS, it's just saying I'm in control and I don't want to have to redo any of this surgery down the road, I want to be 100% sure I'm where I need to be going into this...do doubts....no regrets!! I know you are concerned about other factors too though ($$ not being there if you don't do it now) but if it's what you WANT you'd find a way to have the $$ in 6 mos still.....put it in an acct that you can't touch.....there are ways.
I'm not trying to be unsupportive here at all and I hope you don't read it that way, I'm just sharing my honest feelings and I know what Dr P told ME pre-op about being your smallest before PS so that you do NOT lose more after PS and end up needing more surgery to remove MORE excess skin. It would be tough to LOSE befroe surgery and be happy....for ME it would be tough.
Hugs to YOU!!!!!!!!!!
Tami
ps. There ARE folks who've lost like 200 pounds and need to lose more who may have some ps to have the pannis removed for instance....and that's a different situation. They have PS knowing they'll be having MORE down the road.
