Call from my Nurse Advocate from husband's employer

Finally, I have reliable information regarding my surgery. Whenever I called United Healthcare I never talked to anyone that knew about bariatric surgery. I have a nurse advocate that I have talked to for years but had not been able to reach her. Finally, today we talked. I'm sure many know that each policy from United Healthcare, is written as the "Company" directs. In my case, it was Night Ridder who was bought out by McClatchey. The normal requirements are required for bariatric surgery, and the one requirement of documentation of past diets which I was freaking out about is really no big deal. What is a big deal is Knight Ridder required a 6 month course in United's Healthy Roads program. When McClatchey took over, their requirement is 8 sessions and then I'm ready. I should be getting the information in the mail later this week. The sessions will be considered my visit with the psychologist so that's 2 obstacles. The last 2 sessions start preparation for surgery. I read the board for several hours last night and realized the hoops so many of you had to jump through. My problem was with all the surgeries these past three years, I didin't wait, I had surgery and moved on. So I just need to chill and get ready to enjoy the coming spring. I hope this finds everyone happy and well. Thanks again for all the support. Trudy

The sessions are once a week, so maybe July or so??? It really works out best for us as we are taking our 12 y/o grandson to Seaworld on April 7th and then I head to Illinois to stay with our daughter until our first granddaughter, Gabrielle, is born. Gabby is due May 4th. I also learned that since I may be out of town, that I can have a telephone conference instead. The last 2 session need to be at the office. I found a bit of information on the main board. At one session you go over chewing your food 50 times and drinking 64 oz of clear liquid. You set goals that prepare you for surgery. The major relief is they will pay for the surgery and I don't have to diet for a year for them to do so. So now I sit back and read how everyone is doing here and getting to know you better. Trudy

Trudy, I am so happy for you. Yes this is something that takes a while. Which is good because I think if someone just jumped into it it would be hard to comprehend the changes. This way we prepare ourselves for our new life. I too woulld have liked it done like YESTERDAY but it happens when we are suppose to have it. Take care and keep us posted. Congrats on the new grandbaby. I have 3 granddaughters and they are the love of my life. Julia
