Shopping List for Hospital Stay
Hi, Missouri Peeps:
I know a few of you have posted messages on what you took to the hospital. Unforunately, I have done a search and can't find any of them! Would someone be so kind as to give me your suggestions for my hospital stay? I now the Gas X Strips is an important one and is already on my list. Just wondering what else you all would suggest. My surgery is Monday and it seems I have so much to do and so little time to do it in!
Thanks for your help in advance!
Debbie D.
Hi Deb, I know everyone says a pillow. Just for the ride home. I am not going to take much of anything except clothes and my pillow like a regular overnight somewhere. Of course tooth brush and deoderant.
Also some bottled water for the trip home. You will only need what you would need to get ready every morning when you get dressed. It is not long now!!! I know you are excited!. I got a call from Dr. H. office today. We now have to have a scope before surgery. So I do my pre-op testing on the 19th and have surgery on the 2nd of April. Just 33 days for me. I am getting nervous or more anxious I guess because I was hoping to get moved before the surgery. Don't know now when that will happen. I am looking forward to seeing you on the 5th. Take care.
Julia

Debbie, I can't remember what kind of surgery you're having but whatever kind - yes, Gas X are a must. A pillow for the ride home is a must too. Mine was outpatient so I really only needed the pillow. I also took my insurance card, just in case, but they didn't ask for it. Possibly some chap stick because you're mouth will be really dry from the tube.
Good luck! I bet you're getting excited.
Debbie,
Hello and Congrats and Good Luck....I agree about the chap stick-it was a lifesaver...I wish I would hv had the gas x-cause I SUFFERED tremendously!!! One thing I havent seen yet-is either your own socks or a pair of slippers...they gv you socks there, but they dont fit right and even though they are non stick-they were uncomfortable. I wore my own and when I walked-I used my own slippers too. It seems like a little thing, but the less irritants the better!! LOL...good luck, you will be in our prayers. Love, Janet
Just a quick question... how well do the Gas X strips work after our type surgery? I've never tried them... but will buy a pkg if they work on type tummy surgery. Also I read in one of the books that if you get nauseous that you should get one of the alcohol pads they disinfect the area you are getting an injection on... anyway if you open one of those and place it right under your nose you won't vomit or get the dry heaves and you can keep reusing the same pad over and over until it dries up. The woman in the book said it really worked well... especially when your tummy is so sore and heaving hurts all those muscles.
Yes, the Gas X really does work. I used them and walked as much as I could too. Also, if you're prone to getting sick from the anestheshia - tell them. They gave me all the anti-nausea stuff they could and also put a patch behind my ear - the kind you use for motion sickness. I did get a little sick but what mostly came up was air.
I still use the Gas-x at almost 3 yrs out cause the sugar alchohols cause gas and I also keep Beeno handy....keep them both in my purse all the time! I used to have BAD GAS issues and wit these products it does help. I also use a perscription that is for helping food digest, called Ultrase MT20(take it with meals). If interested ask your Dr. Claudette K turned me onto that and I have noticed a BIG change in GAS so that I do not need to take the other things as much.
Hi Deb...getting close girl!!
Hey, on the gas-x...the strips work good but the chewables for me were heaven sent! Not a bad taste and they kick that gas pain, real quick! I bought both and used everyone of them! I took my own pillow, not so much for the ride home but because hospital pillows are lousy! Chapstick or blistex is good! You won't need much stuff, at least I didn't. I will say that you'll need a robe and slippers for walking around. If you don'****ch tv, take a book to read or a game book like crosswords or word search. All that and your "gettin ready in the morning" stuff and you'll be set! Hey, don't forget to wear baggy clothes that are easy off/easy on!
Our prayers are with you!! You'll do great! Deb M
Hello, I bet your getting excited. I took playtex wipes to freshen myself if I did not feel like showering, which I did not use. Also i took facial wipes which i used several times during the day. One thing that saved me was my carmex lip moisturizer. Ask for swabs (mouth) after you get back to your room. Pillow, socks, slippers, and I took my ipod to listen to music. I also asked for a private room, and if it wasn't available ask to be put on the waiting list.
Good luck to you, go by the rules. Take it slow afterwards and walk the halls even if you don'tfeel like it, it pays off in the long run. Tara.
