I am back home.
Hello all. This has gone pretty fast. I came home yesterday. I am sleeping alot because of the pain pills. They knock me out. I am allergic to so many of them, this one has been the only one that helped the pain. Dr Edwards says he dug and dug on my left side where the drainaige bag is.
I know my protein intake is suffering bad. I still haven't found a protein drink that offers more than 7 gm that I like, or can tolerate. So have just been using the protein broth and whatever else like cran-grape protein shakes.
Hope everyone is doing well, It is good to be home.
why did he dig on the left side??? what was he doing over there. lol
good to see you at home. wish you still werent haveing to have the pain pills. they really make you goofy dont they? will be praying for you to get straighten out.
you didnt like the ON protein powder? I have always like them. hope to see you soon i guess it will be too soon to see you at the meeting monday? sorry you are hurting. dont worry about the protein right now. just try to keep the water intake going as much as possible. ok? Love Jan
Hi Jan, He said he was clearing a spot to put the unused parts...I really can't remember. I have another question also. Is it neccessary to sip my water and other thin drinks? I have been drinking alot but not sipping because it goes down fine. Am i doing that wrong?
Yes these pain pills are not fun at all. I don't like the feeling they give me at all. Also I sure have alot of drainage around my drainage site. I guess that is good to get it out of me.....
Tara,
Sounds like you are right on track with the time line. Don't sweat the protein right now, you'll find something that works. I use EAS from Walmart but doctor it up pretty good. Just remember to drink your water, that's the important part right now. Don't want to get dehydrated. The first week I didn't do too much. Loved the "juice" from canned soup, threw out the veggies and meat. Still like warm broth sometimes.
Keep doing your best and stop pain meds as soon as you can. They mess with your digestion and elimination. Water, water, water right now!!! Hugs and love to you and welcome to the other side.

Tara - so happy to see a post from you!
Take the time to rest and recover - like the other ladies said, just try to drink now. I made the mistake of not doing that yesterday and paid for it with dizziness. I'm taking liquid hydracodiene (sp?) for the pain but am limiting it now to bed-time and nap-time (thank goodness my 4 year old still napes) because it does knock you out and just in general makes me feel loopy. I know it's good for you to be home. Don't push yourself. When do you go back to see the good doctor? My appointment is late Tuesday.

Hi Tara!
Glad you are up to posting......Do you make that cran-grage protein drink or where do you get it? I'd not heard of that kind. Sounds good!
As for the way the pain meds make you feel....you may find you are able to tolerate NOT taking any better than you think. I had Open RNY and took know pain meds after the 2nd day after surgery. Only because I couldn't tolerate the taste of the liquid morphine they gave me. Your body adjusts to the pain and will tolerate more than we think. But if you can deal with the affects of taking them, you may prefer to be pain-free and loopy! lol : )
I didn't get much protein in until I could eat pureed foods. It's just difficult when you don't like the protein drinks. I had the same trouble. The only way I do them now is to make fruit smoothies with them.....or sometimes a choc smoothie.
As long as you keep hydrated.....water, crystal light, popsicles etc......you'll be fine.
Taek care,
Tami

So glad you are back home and sounds like everything is going well.
What type surgery did you have?
I am trying the optimal nutrition that I got from GNC. It is in the black label vanilla ice cream flavor. It was on sale online. I like it, and can add other things for flavor also.
I love the pictures of your dogs, I have a dashchund also, she is 9 years old and very spoiled. Her name is Betty.
Let me hear from you and rest well.

Okay Tara, your forgiven since you emailed me! LOL! I hope you can start doing without those ole pain meds soon. Everyone says they sure make it hard on you to really start feeling better. Hey I will check at the fitness center where I go, they have a drink in the cooler there that has alot of protien, but Im not sure what else. My friend Mary buys them and she loves them. I dont know how you prepared the samples we gave you but if you flavor them up they are really good. Yesterday tho I just mixed with soy milk and a pack of "great value" sunrise drink mix. That is like the generic crystal lite....it was excellent. It tasted like an orange push up. I am going to try just mixing my protien powder with crystal lite and no milk and see what it does. Has anyone tried that?
PS If you didnt like the protien shakes before surgery...try them no post-op...alot of people say that your tastes change alot and you may tolerate them now! LOVE YOU GIRL...Sugar
