good carb/bad carb questions.

I have rid my diet of sugar, rice, pasta, and bread. Now sometimes I have a slice of pizza or some spaghetti, but let me tell you it is far between! So, what is good carb and bad carb and does it affect me trying to lose weight? Can I eat oatmeal, wheat crackers, wheat bagels, so on. Now I eat all the fruit, and vegetables I want. I noticed corn has 21 carbs, and fruit is on the high side, but I can't give up everything! Is popcorn a good snack? I have done so good getting back (again) on low carb, no sugar. But what are the rules what I can eat in carbs and how will it affect me losing weight?

Monique the way i understand it . good carbs are like from fruits and green veggies. bad carbs are from corn, rice, pasta, spag, potatoes, sugar etc. for me i just dont eat anything yellow or white that way i hope i have it covered lol. I know there is a better explanination than this but that is how i do. as far as wheat crackers etc. ??????someone else needs to help us out.,Oatmeal is considered good i think Popcorn is probably a good snack as far out as you are just be careful of the hulls. Monique, Just remember to always balance your good carbs with protein as well. A little nuts or cheese or slice of meat and so on, when you have some fruit. And as for the crackers, have some peanut butter with it, I've found one called Naturally More at Wal-mart and it's got flax added to it as well.....that's good for the bowels, the skin, hair etc... You just need to remember to keep the serving size low, it's so easy to overdo the carbs while snacking.....I'm GUILTY of that for sure. They just taste so good!!! I do eat popcorn, I get the Orville Red. smart pop kettle corn, very low sugar but very tasty and not all the fat of the buttered. The fruit CAN be over done as with ANY eating. Just stick to a serving with some protein.....experiment with the fruit/protien smoothies I've posted on here before....it's VERY filling and yummy. Good luck....I'm struggling right now with trying to make good choices too. : ) I'm not sure how many carbs you can have etc....maybe someone else could say? I do try to keep my sugars under 7 pers serving though. Tami

So what I am seeing is that whole wheat things are okay to eat while I am trying to lose this 20 pounds? Chad eats a whole wheat bagel with turkey, ham and cheese and it is to die for. I only take two bites when he makes it, but I am really watching closely the carbs, and I was not sure if I was going overboard trying to lose weight. Here is an example of my day of eating. Large protein drink in am (the coffee mocha one) 1 cup coffee with cream and spenda Lunch: some sort of meat with fruit or vegetable snack: fruit, or meat with cheese Dinner: I try to make meat with vegetables. Last night we had ham with pineapples cooked on top(in own juice), mixed vegetabes and a salad. Snack: Popcorn, or left over dinner, and I also snack on SF nobake cookies. I probably eat too many. Before bed I usually drink a cup of decaf coffee. I have lost a pound a week for 3 weeks now doing this. But I have to watch every bite, and be so motivated not to eat the "bad stuff" I don't eat sugar, or milk duds. I cannot kick the habit of drinking with meals though. I am seeing that I will cut out the corn. I drink 60 oz of propel water a day, or try to. Does anyone have more suggestions. I don't want to make mistakes if I am gonna do this right!

Monique, I'm too new to tell you about your menu plan but I want to commend you for trying to do everything correctly before your PS. I am very proud of you. I know this hasn't been easy for you, it isn't for anyone as far from surgery as you are, but you are making a committment to a healthy permanent weight loss and to learning to eat for life. Way to go, girlfriend. You're the bomb. Lana
