OT: A kitty question
I have a 2 1/2 year old cat that kills birds. I mean like daily. She quit when it was so cold but now has started up again. She brings dead and dying birds into the house and DH says I have to find a solution or she has to go. Do you think de-clawing her front paws would help? Any info would be wonderful. Keeping her in the house is not an option as our 11 year old Jack Russell has had a dog door his entire life and so she just uses it. Please help me!!! I'm nearly desperate.
Love and hugs,
Lana
Hi Lana, This is true nature for a cat to do. It's instinct. They bring the birds in to you because you are her family. It's a form of an offering. Declawing might help but if she is to be outside that is not good.If you have bird feeders that makes it easier and more attractive to the cat. Or if your neighbors do they will still go there. Short of keeping the cat either in or out at all times you might want to call a vet and see if they have some suggestions. I had one that not only brought me birds, dead or alive, she brought me shrews and mice also. She climbed on my ex's chest when he was asleep and he awoke to a fresh mouse from her.
better him than me, just the birds would freak me out, the mice sent me running.
Best fo luck. Julia

Lana...
I have been there myself..and it isn't very funny as I love my kitties but I also love the birdies! I do not believe in declawing. I believe it is inhumane. They don't just remove the claw (toenail) ..they amputate the whole tip of the cat's "fingers"... it would be likened to removing the tips of your fingers down to the first joint.
My vet suggested that I get a little tinkly bell and afix it to the offending cat's collar. It prevented him from sneaking up on the birds as they could hear him coming. It didn't completely eradicate the problem but I'm telling you I was not having birds brought to me on a DAILY basis after putting the bell on him. We also got a collar that had the breakaway feature lest he get hung up on something so it wouldn't choke him.....
Worked like a charm!
Hope this helps....

Hi Lana,
I do agree that maybe your first attempt is to get a bell collar for your Kitty. My girlfriend worked for a Vet and told me not only do they pull and cut off tips, they break their little knuckles too! I keep thinking how I would feel if I had to walk on broken knuckles. Yes, she is showing her love and wanting you approval for the offering. She obviously loves you alot. Good luck! I would be interested to know how it all comes out.
