How long would you recommend being off work? I basically work in my office, not much...
Nicky,
I am an administrative secretary to a Department Head at Missouri State Univ. Now granted my boss is awesome and I could tell her at any time that I don't feel well and need to go home or to lie down but I had surgery on 12/26/06 and came back to work on January 10, 2007 and did fine. I did have my RNY lapariscopically but just wasn't feeling that bad after two plus weeks. I actually intended to come back on 1/8/07 but got a bad cold/bronchitis so I stayed home an additional two days. Being home all day was driving me crazy and coming back to work made me feel better. Kept my mind occupied.
I will tell you that the loving support of your boss and co-workers is sure helpful. My closest co-worker other than my boss is very supportive and I can never repay her for all the times she's covered my desk while I went to appointments etc. That's the hardest thing now, having so many follow-up appointments to keep.
Hope everything goes smoothly for you. I had a six month diet/exercise program I was required to complete and then I had surgery with no insurance problems at all.
Hugs and love and keep posting to keep us informed.

Melissa, thank you so much for your advice. I might add also that I am having the Lap band not the RNY. I went to my preop visit today and they have scheduled my surgery for Wednesday, 2/6/07. I haven't received approval from my insurance company yet. I'm in a situation which is my insurance will be cancelling on 2/20/07. Thanks again and I will keep you posted.
I'm having the lap band done as well. My doctor, James Pitt suggested that his patients take at least a week off. He has also had a lap band done. He had it done on Friday and was doing surgeries on Monday. But did agree that it was very hard on him and it was a long week. He told us to plan on taking a week, 2 if we could. As someone said, you can go back early if you're ready.
