Hi all! Many of you have seen and heard how I like to make my protein/fruit smoothies from past posts and our support group but I wanted to post again incase some of you want to try this and haven't seen it yet. You can come up with whatever creation suits your taste but this was my latest creation: POUR INTO BLENDER-(I've burned up 3 smoothie-elite machines, got a kitchen-aid blender and it's awsome!) 1C of light minute maid fruit jc 1C strawberries ****ep mine frozen and half thaw out to make this) 1 frozen banana cut up(or mango, peaches, pineapple, blueberries, etc) 1C milk(soy or carb-countdown) or 1 cup "low carb" fruit yogurt 1/3c of quick oats(optional, this was the 1st time I added oats, GOOD stuff!) BLEND, while blending pour in 1 1/2c-2c of crushed ice, may need to help stir to keep it going, then while still blending add 3-4 scoops Optimum Nutrition strawberry protein powder. I use a spatula to help stir it down in good and I don't blend too long after adding protein as too much blending makes it too frothy, plus at this point the blender is VERY full! : ) I filled 3- 20 ounce styrofoam cups(bought at the local deli-a whole sleeve at a time) with this and put them in the freezer. Then when I'm leaving for the day I take one with me and in about 2 hours it's thawed enough to drink with a straw! or you can eat it sooner with a spoon, or microwave for 1 min. to enjoy right away. Each of these has 25-30g of protein, lots of GOOD carbs from the fruit and no more than 125 calories. I make a chocolate one too and add some s/f choc syrup, almonds, ICE. For me the key is ICE, as I do NOT do the regular protein shakes well. So if you find that shakes do not appeal to you, EXPERIMENT till you find something that is enjoyable. I went w/o protein shakes for the first 18mos post-op cause I didn't LIKE them, once I began making my own smoothies I LOVE them and it's a good way to get our protein in ON THE GO!!!!!!! That's a big problem for many of us, finding things to have "ON THE GO" so give this a shot! I'm betting you'll enjoy them like I do!!! Tami

Thanks, Tami, I'm not quite at the fruit stage yet but in another few weeks, especially when it is warmer, I'll give them a try. It sounds delicious. Right now I'm on hot coffee mixed with protein powder but in the warmer weather the ice sounds great. Good to see you at COF meeting Monday night. Hugs and love, Lana

Tami i was going to ask someone the other night if they had ever frozen smooties for later on or on the go. Thanks for giving me the answer without me asking LOl That smootie sounds delicious and am printing it off so i can remember what all you put in it. I love protein shakes anyway but love the one Claudette gave here while back with instant coffee and now this one sound really good to will have a file on just smooties before long. Jan

My stages were not quite like yours but can you have canned stews? I ate them and they had lot's of protein and the meat in them was so soft that it went down very well. I never did pureed meats at all. Can you have beef jerky? My favorite is the Jacks Links Original and you can look through the package and see which pkg has MOIST pieces in it.....the less white you see in the pieces the moister/softer it is. I LOVE IT! you can find the unflavored with no sugar as well. As for the pureed foods.....I'm not tryign to stir up trouble here (lol) BUT it's during that stage that I had my canned stews. Because of how they are in the can, it turns to MUSH in your mouth before you swallow it so that IS puree right? That was and IS my theory anyhow! : ) I was like you, could NOT do the protein shakes and to beef stews/chili saved me. Just put tiny, tiny bits in your mouth and let it go to mush.....you'll be fine.
