Stage 1 Question
I have basically been drinking what I want - when I want. Well today I had broth twice, 6 ounces each, apple juice 6 ounces, grape juice 6 ounces, herbal tea 3 ounces and about 24 ounces of water, all over the course of about 15 hours - sipping slowly. That is a total of 51 ounces. I was reading over my paperwork and it says - "IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT NOT TO OVERDO IT WITH LIQUIDS IN THE BEGINNING".
So, am I overdoing it? The other paperwork says 1 ounce of liquid every 15 minutes. I'm not sure I was taking 15 minutes per ounce but over the course of the day my intake averaged .85 ounces per 15 minutes. So what exactly is "overdoing it" and what will happen if I do - will my pouch stretch too soon? I have not gotten sick from drinking too quickly.
This may seem silly but the warning was written in big, bold letters - yikes!!
Hugs,
Marilyn
Marilyn, I checked my manual and it only said to take in approxiamately 1 ounce every 15 minutes.Thats 4 ounces an hour so in 15 hours that equals 60 ounces. You are fine. You need the fluid to keep rom getting dehydrated or having an urinary tract infection. If you have no fever, no pain, are sipping slowly you are doing well. Remember you are 6 days out and you will start stage 2 Tuesday, that's 24 hours or so away.If you are keeping with the right types of liquids then pat yourself on the back and don't worry.Your pouch won't stretch, if you remember you said earlier you had diarreaha so you need the liquids. The liquids are not staying in your pouch but moving on thru your system. If you drank too much or too fast you would be nauseated and vomit or if it was the wrong kind of liquids you would probally dump. You are probally one of the lucky ones who will do real well. Julia
Marilyn,
I don't think you are overdoing it. I know I can drink all 64 ozs. of water now and I am not even 2 months out. I still have a hard time with the protien shakes and stick mainly to water. You will know if you over do it. You will get so sick. Basically what happens is your pouch fills up and it will "back up" and make you sick as can be. I "over did" it once and I thought I was going to die. I am scared of streching out too, but the way I eat, there is no way that I can stretch it out. A toddler eats more than I do. I think the stretching happens later down the road when you start eating larger portions and the wrong kinds of foods. Stick with what makes you comfortable, because during the first few weeks you will need all the "comfort" you can get!! I had such a hard time. Kudos to you for being able to get that much liquid in!!!
