Kinda personal question...
I was wondering if we get cathed during surgery? I know they will be getting us up to get around but with all the fluids....your gonna have to go alot...yes? I was just wondering.
I wasn't cathed after my last back surgery and let me tell ya, I had a heck of a time with them running fluids and me grimping back and forth from the bathroom cause I got tired of having to ask for a bedpan. I was in tears! I know this Lap Band surgery shouldn't be anywhere near that kind of pain but I was wondering about the cath.
My maiden name was Foley and I always got embarrassed when I was in the hospital with that name and having a cath in. I got teased alot! I guess they don't use Foleys much anymore tho, at least thats what I was told.
Does anyone on here take the pain killer, Vicodin? I take it for my back but have no idea how I will take it after surgery! It's a horse pill! I can break it in half but I'm still a little concerned about that pill, the others I have to take aren't so bad. Well, my metformin is big but I'm hoping I won't need it anymore! It's for diabetes for those that don't know.
Well, I'm outta here AGAIN...sheesh! My days gonna be over before I get out of this chair...lol
God Bless! Deb M.
yes you get (foleyed) for the surgery. they take it out soon tho. I dont remember them even taking it out to tell the truth. lol So i assumed they put one it. they said they would. maybe someone that was more with it before surgery can tell you for sure. when they gave the little bit of med to relax me it put me out like a light. always does. My pain meds were liquid and I havent' taken metformin or any of the diabetes medication since the day before I had surgery (well except for the insulin in the hospital) I was completely off the pain meds by the following tuesday (and only taking them to help me sleep basically).
Good luck with your surgery, I will be praying for you.

Hey ya Deb,
Yeah they Cath ya before surgery, but they wait til your out to put it in, then take it out the next day after you've had the leak test.
As far as the pain meds, Dr. H will give ya perscription for liquad pain meds, the one I got tasted pretty good actually and as for the metformin, he took me off all of my diabetic meds and such, I test my sugar tho once a day and so far it stays down in the 120's. I have to watch my carbs tho, cuz those will put my sugar up in a new york min but i'd rather do that then be fat all my life lol.
Well I hope that helps ya some along with wot the others had to say too.
Andrew!
Hi Deb. I don't remember a catheter at all. Either my doc didn't do it, or it was removed before I woke up. The first thing I did once I hit my room from recovery was trek to the potty with my IV. Umm, I don't 'do' bedpans!!!
I was given liquid Vicodin (lortab), like someone else said, it tastes bad, but helped post-surgery pain.
You have been on my mind lately, I was thinking how much better your body will feel once you have lost some weight. I know your pain issues, I had them too after 2 low back surgeries, and a steel plate in my neck. Ya just hurt all over don't you? You will feel so much different even with a 30 pound loss, I feel great at 80 lb loss. Can't wait for the 150 mark!!! I am over half way there.
Good luck to you!!
