Hello and Please Help....I'm new.
Hello. I had my surgery June of this year. I started at 297 pounds...6 months later i am 108 pounds lighter. I look better but i am starting to have difficulties. For one, i am craving carbs!!!....And my attitude is horrible. I am extremely edgy and snappy alot. I get frustrated very easily. I am getting in my protein and fluids. But i have been (holidays) junk food again somewhat. I really need a support group. Hope i have found the right place. Please help me to understand some of this stuff and how to deal with it.
hi Peggy welcome to the board. From what i have learned is that simple carbs are really addivtive ..one is too many and a thousand isnt never enough. If you have been eating some junk foods this holiday season then you have probably gotten addicted to them but there is hope . to get it out of your system you will have to make a read dedicated effort to keep all sugars, carbs etc out of your system for at least 7 days to be able to no longer crave them. I have heard from some others on other boards that when they did that they had to go back to basic for 7 days, liquid diet. of protein drinks, jello, broth, and sugar free popsicles only. Dont know if it works but is worth the try.
Again welcme to the board and hope you keep coming back Jan
our support group is awesome that Claudette was telling you about but i know that Springfield is quite a ways to drive for a meeting too from Poplar Bluff. If you would like to come we would love to have you it is a great support group.
Brenda Minks and Andrew Walker are starting a support group up over in your area. that will have their first meetin on the 8th of January. If it is ok i will forward your name to them so they can get in touch with you about it.
We would love to have you here in Springfield but know that is a long drive . Jan
Peggy I see your going through what alot of us go through sometimes. I'm only 6 weeks or so post-op so I havnt gone through that yet and hopefully wont but just to let ya know since you live in Popular Bluff, like Jan said there is gonna be a new support group starting Jan 8. It'll be some where near fredericktown at Brenda Minks church. Im sure exactly of where it is but we'll be sure to let ya know when I find out the exact location. If your ever in the springfield area you should stop by the support group led by Claudette, its an awesome group to get needed info from and support. We ALL need support in our journeys no matter how long its been since we've had WLS. Hope to see you post more and welcome to the missouri board.
Bless ya,
Andrew
Hi Peggy,
Welcome to the board!
I will be starting a Support Group, first meeting Jan 8th.
I will e-mail you a map. I live 40 miles north of Poplar Bluff, I used to work at Lucy Lee Hospital (for 10 years).
The meeting will be at Fredericktown, that's about 65 miles from you.
We will be meeting the 2nd Monday of each month.
Would love to have you join us!!!!!!!!
There is another lady on here from Poplar Bluff, Cathy Wolfe, maybe you could contact her and you guys could carpool.
I will e-mail you a map on how to get there.
Again please come to the meeting, this will be all new for me also but between all of us I'm sure we can give and most importantly receive support.
Brenda
Peggy,
Welcome to the most loving, caring support forum on Obesity Help. We really love each other and are committed to helping everyone succeed. My physician has stressed to me that I need a support group and fortunately I have found one that fits me. The Circle of Friends is open to everyone and very fun. You also might consider contacting your surgeon for help getting an appointment with a nutritionist or counsellor. Sounds as if you're having holiday issues to me. Try the back to basics as Jan suggested and see if getting all that junk out of your system helps your emotions too. Know that we're here for you and always tell us what's going on in your life, no matter whether it's good or ucky. Hugs and love,
Lana
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. But the truth is.....I'm really not willing to make any extra trips than i absolutely have to at this point. I travel regularly right now back and forth. My husband had a kidney transplant in Oct and we are just now slowing down on our trips. We were driving 500-700 miles 2-3 times a week for the last few months. I would like to find a support group here closer to my area though. I just don't think that there are very many people here in Poplar Bluff that have had this surgery. A few that i know of personally but they really aren't of much help. So, basically i guess i am looking for online support. I didn't think i needed it the first few months but now.......I NEED HELP....LOL. Especially after the holidays. Has anyone else experienced a change in attitude? I get stressed out very easily and i'm snappy now at times. I have NEVER been like this. Everyone keeps saying it's because i have gone through alot and it may be ....but i should be feeling better, not worse. And the before and after pictures are helping me alot. I just realized yesterday how much weight i have actually lost by looking at a new picture of me. I just couldn't believe it was me and i know i am taking the wrong path again with my choices on eating. But it is hard when everyone else in the house is eating it too!!! So...again, i really need people that have gone through this and can relate with me on what i am going through. Hopefully....when i have time to relax a little and get things on the right track again i will be able to travel to a support group. I am just not able to do it right now.
