help...complication????

Hi, I am on my 6th day post op and starting yesterday afternoon everytime I take a sip or even just swallow I feel like I have something stuck in my throat that wont go down, it is very uncomfortable. I am having a really hard time burping as well, and if I do burp it is so small that you really cant even call it a burp. I also still have lots of gas that I have done everything and anything to get rid off, so I am wondering if its just gas thats making me feel like this when I swallow or if its something else. Can anyone help please??? Valerie

i dont know what it is but i remember having that too. Just take tiny tiny sips almost no more than getting your tongue wet. i used the gas x strips to help with getting rid of the gas after surgery. and lots of walking. if you are really in a lot of pain call your surgeon and talk to them. Jan

I had your doctor 2 years ago, and he is wonderful! If you ever have a worry, just call them, they are great to answer questions. Dr. Richardson will go out of his way to help his patients. My brother had his RNY by the same doctor on December 19th. Small world.

Hi Val, I think it is probably just gas in the body cavity protesting having something invade its space. Even tho it may be better than it was after surgery, I bet there is still a lot in there. Burping isn't something I did for several weeks postop, and then it was from drinking too quickly, get this...with a straw at a restaurant (I forgot!!). Is your calf better? If you can't hold any liquids down, or foods, for a day, that would be a sign that there is something to be concerned about, like a stricture. I know getting to know the new pouch is difficult and takes time. Even when you are accustomed to eating something routine and it comes back, it causes you to wonder what is wrong. Don't be afraid to call Dr. R. Take a list of your questions to your office visit too. He will be giving you lots of information and that way you can make sure to cover all of your questions. Hey Diana, hows it going girl??? The calf mucsle is much better-thanks for asking. I will def give you a call after my app. tomorrow, I am so nervous about gettting that drain taken out, I am very tender in that spot. I still have alot of gas, but its not near as bad as it was-Thank God. Oh ya, I am freezing my ever lovin butt off too...It started the day I started the 2 week pre op liquid diet. I just cant get warm, I am driving Brian crazy LOL. I am usually the hot one and he is always cold...I am really gonna freeze when I start losing a bunch of weight LOL, Ill be wearing longjohns in July!!!! Well, you take care of yourself and that sweet hubby and family of yours. Oh by the way....if you could get me a book for your party on the 7th I will order something out it, I looked at the website and didnt see any "pouch friendly" soups but maybe there are some more in the book.
