Sherr, about your motel stay!!
It is a little early for me but, I would like to plan a motel stay after surgery also.
I live in Poplar Bluff and I don't really want to pull my family away for a few days, and liked your idea of staying there all week. So was trying to think of all the things I would have to take with me for a weeks stay, and thought maybe you might remember something that I may have forgotten.
If you all think of something let me know. Thanks, Cathy
Sure, I took a bunch of bottle water, crystal light flavors, coffee items, hot chocolate mix (sugar free of course) tea bags if you like tea, lots of sweeteners....plenty of "comfy items" after my surgery, I was soooo cold so I took two extra blankets, and warm clothes are a must. I only took one pair of socks since I had surgery in Sept. and my feet froze.
ONE THING that was a life saver: A SHOWER STOOL, if you can borrow one, or rent one....it was a life saver.
Another funny thing (((and don't laugh)))) pre-made gravy, you know, the kind in the jars..... I could only "drink" about a 1/4th a cup, but I really helped when I wanted something "savory". You'll need to find a hotel w/ a fridge and microwave.
I couldn't stand any of the protien drinks that you make with water, so I stayed with the crystal light drinks and hot drinks. I have never liked broth, but it helped when I wanted something to "eat".....
Not to completely gross you out, but my doctors (((Missouri Bariatrics out of Columbia)))) use a drain system w/ a "bulbous" drain, well, it leaks...and it leaked a LOT, so make sure you have PLENTY of clean gowns, you are NOT going to feel like doing laundry, even if the hotel has a laundry facility.
You'll need non stick tape, gauze pads, and neosporin WITH PAIN RELIEVER really helps with your new incisions. And really helps with scaring!
I hope all my babeling helps you some, and please come her and let us know how it goes for you.
Sherr
Thanks Sherr, I know I will forget something, was it hard driving to the motel from the hospital? Did you have to go get meds filled? I suppose I will have to take cups or bowls to heat broth and soup in and a can opener. Good idea about a bath stool would have never thought of that. Did you forget anything because you won't feel like running out and getting it if you do.
Cathy
See, I knew I'd forget some info. I left my car at the hotel and took a cab, then took a cab back to the hotel. The hospital will not allow you to drive yourself.
I took some plastic containers and dawn detergent. All the items I took were pull top cans or had lids. I heated the broth and drinks in cups. You will need plastic spoons too.
By the 3rd day in the hote, (5 days post op) I went to wal mart to buy socks....it was HARD and I was exhausted by the time I got back. But, I didn't have any other option. Take pillows, I used a "mini" one that I placed between me and the car door to help with the hardest pain area, left hand side of stomach, and it was a life saver, especially on the 9 hour trip back to Kennett, when I drove home.
Sherr
p.s. when is your surgery? I am blonde ya know.
cathy I am pre- op also, so I had a bunch of questions for the people on here, and they know how to answer them, good place to be, tks blondie I think I will be in sedila for a couple of days extra in the motel, I have a quite a drive too. and I want to make sure I am ready to come home...God bless....vesta
Good motning Cathy
When I had my surgery we stayed at Comfort Inn on Hwy 50 coming into Sedalia it is about a seven minutes drive to Bothwell from there and it does have a refrigerator and microwave in the room, you'll have to check their prices though and it was comfortable there, plus the staff was great too, so check them out.
