Hello friends. It's been a pretty long road. We got home last night around 10 PM. It was a long 5 days in the hospital and I had to convince the surgeon I was beyond ready to come home. It was still a late night but I didn't care. I wanted my bed. I was finally able to get comfortable and slept so much better here than I did at the hospital. A couple of pain pills helped me to rest for about 5 hours and I woke up needed more pills. I still have 2 JP drains coming out of my lower left abdomen. These are clear plastic tubes from inside the abdomen to outside the abdomen that are attached to grenade like thingies that suck gross subcataneous fluids from around the surgical areas to help prevent infection. My incision is 7 inches which is right below my breasts to right above my belly button. I had my Central Line removed from my neck last night right before discharge. (Praise God!) I can not wait to have the JP Drains taken out too. I had some more IV's and a Nasal Canula for oxygen but those came off mid week. I am on a clear liquid sugar free diet for the next two weeks with two exceptions. I am to drink 2 Carnation Sugar free instant breakfast each day and 2 sugar free protein shakes as well. By far, my favorite is Chicken Broth, but I also enjoy hot tea and sugar free koolaid. This afternoon my husband and I made some snowflakes with Jonathan then I headed to bed for a nap. The home health nurse was here for her initial assessment this morning and my bandages have been changed and drains have been emptied. I just feel so tired but as long as I have my pain meds, the pain is bearable most of the time. Chris has been very helpful since I have been home, checking things and offering reassurance as needed. After my nap dh had to change my drainage tube pads as they were coming undone and were getting saturated. DH said he is going to try to find the baby monitor to set it in our room so that he can hear if I need something when I am in our room trying to rest. Noah (my 19 month old) is having some issues with me not being able to pick him up but we are working through them. I miss cuddling with my little peanut but in 78 days, everything will be back to normal and I can pick him up all I want. I saw Kathy a few times in the hospital as we were on the same floor. She had her surgery 2 days after me and was still pretty miserable. I totally understood her pain and told her she would very slowly get better. I am still working on that myself. I have to admit that the first 4 days were hell, but I am slowly beginning to see a small light at the end of the tunnel. Talk to you soon. Love, Delana
