I guess I am doing ok. I have my next dr appt on Wed morning. According to my scale I am down 25 lbs. I think I am on track. I haven't really started doing alot of exercise yet. I keep waiting for that 'burst' of energy I keep hearing about. We are getting a family membership to the local rec-plex for Christmas, so I plan to start working out after the holidays and hope to incorporate the whole family in the process. I can tolerate almost any soup or chili that I have tried, but still seem to eat cottage cheese the most. It 'tastes' good to me. I am not really eating alot of potatoes anymore, although at Andrew's suggestion, I have bought some Mrs. Dash to sprinkle on them in place of the salt to give them a zingy flavor. I am so ready to move forward with some food choices. I bought some talapia fillets and some whitefish fillets, of course I have no idea how to fix them, but I figure I would look up a recipe when I can eat them. I do have a question about tuna. Since bread is a long way off still, how do you eat it? Just with a spoon or fork? I have been wondering that myself. I just purchased a couple of books today on Amazon to hopefully give me some recipe ideas also. Ok, I guess I have rambled enough for one post. Thanks for "listening". Barb

sounds like you are doing really well with your 25 pounds weight loss. good job. now about the potatoes dont get too caught up in eating them since they are very starchy and we know that starches turn to sugar. ta-da....i eat a little piece of baked sweet potatoe if i feel the need for a potato they are better for you and are yummy fix them with butter and a dab of cream cheese Cottage cheese is good for you .Tuna , you can eat it with a fork and later on you can have some of the low carb, low sugar water crackers. or put in on a lettuce leaf and roll it up . only after your doc clears both of those. keep up the good work. Barb wtg on the weightloss, Im one month post-op today. I hope the Mrs. Dash helps ya, at walmart they have so many differnt flavors of it. Like Jan said on the taters, I have to take it easy now on em, my sugar was running a bit high and I couldnt figure out why til Jan reminded me taters turn to sugar, eeeeeekkk. I now have started taking califlower and mashing them up like taterz, I have a couple different recipes i'll go find and post em for ya, thats if ya like califlower. I've got one recipe that after ya fix em they almost taste like mashed taterz and another recipe I just made earlier this week thats a casarole and its really good. Last night I had my first salad with tuna, i had a couple leaves of romaine lettuce and had a lil bit of tuna on it with some lowfat cheese, I found a low cal no sugar added blue cheese dressing that i had just a couple tablespoons on the salad and it was really good, I hated blue cheese til after surgery, I smelled it last night and thought mmMMmMm LoL weird i know. I love cottage cheese too. I mostly stick to my protein shakes that keep me full right now tho, in the afternoon or early evening i'll have a lil bite of food if I'm hungry, I've lost 30lbs since surgery. Keep up the good work Barb!! Andrew

I LOVE recipes...so please send em on...Would love to find some of the blue cheese dressing....Before surgery I took a 16 oz carton of cottage cheese and a packet of low fat ranch dressing and blended it together and made tuna salad with that. It was one of the "recommended" things to try from the dr's office. They said you could use it as a dip for veggies (when you can eat veggies) or in place of mayo. High in protein. I do like califlower...so definately would be interested in the recipes. Thanks so much everyone for your support and encouragement. Andrew, Great job on your weight loss too!!!!!

Congrats on 25 lbs in 4 weeks! That's phenomenal. I love tilapia. I buy the individually wrapped ones from Walmart's frozen section. The way I cook them... a tiny pat of butter cut into squares and placed on the fish, and season salt. THen I pop it in the microwave for about four minutes (more or less depending on your microwave) Tracey

I love tilapia too but my way (check to see if you can eat it this way post-ops) is to put foil in a baking sheet, put the tilapia down then spray it with butter flavor pam or off-brand, just make sure it's butter flavor, then I season it with Lawry's seasoning salt and garlic pepper (McCormicks), wrap it up and let it cook at 350F for 30 or 40 minutes, depending on how done you like your fish. We like it REAL DONE so after the inital 40 minutes, I drain the juice off and let it cook another 10 minutes uncovered.....hubby and I love it. Add a salad and you got a meal! I use a lot of Mrs Dash too.....just don't use it on the recipe I just gave you, use it alone or with pepper...we love pepper too!

Barb, You are doing fantastic. I think your plans are awesome. I, too, bought two books on Amazon and they inspired me. I have my surgery 12/26 but the books made me realize that there is a world of food out there that I can and will eat. My DH does not eat fish but I can and will and make him a burger or steak. I also heard, from Jan I think, that shrimp set really well in our new pouches when we get to that stage so I'm planning on that. Right now I'm on the pre-op full liquid with one light meal a day and I am having a little trouble knowing exactly what a light meal is. I know no steak or burgers but crackers? or rolls? Salads? I guess I should have questioned the Dr's office more but I'll call them Monday for more instruction. I do know you need to moisten that tuna with light mayo or something because one of our WLS graduates always said "tuna is evil" because it made him sick. You are going to be such a success. Keep posting. Love and hugs Lana
