Hi everyone, I'm new to the board and just reading through some of the messages. You all are so very nice. I have a concern, and not sure how to figure it out myself. I am still deciding which surgery to have. I have a conflict with myself over which one to go with. I like the idea of less invasive, less risky; however, need the discipline of the RNY. I tend to eat fried foods and sweets. I am afraid that I will continue to do that after the Lap Band. My insurance has approved me for both and my doctor recommends the RNY because of my eating habits. I'm just really scared. Nervous Nilly.....

Pam that is why i went with the RNY only because i know how i ate before and would continue to do if there was a way that i could. Since surgery in August i have lost 60 pounds.and that was another reason was becasue i didnt want the hassle of having to keep going back and forth to the doctor to get fill on the lap band to find the right adjustment. But each and every one of us have to decide that for them selves. There is no right answer except what we decide to do then that is the right answer for you. Glad to have you on the board, hope to see you again soon. Jan

Hi Pam, I'm Debbie and I agree totally with Jan, you have to make the decision for yourself. I, myself am having the Lap Band but I bounced back and forth between the two for the longest time. I feel that I, personally would do better with the Lap Band but if it doesn't do the job I will be back for the RNY. The weight has got to come off, one way or another! Another reason for me having Lap Band is cause I can't have RNY then go back and have the Lab Band done. Good Luck! Deb

Pam, I, like Jan, know I need the enforced discipline of the RNY. I tend to press boundaries and know I'd eat sugar and fat if I could. I am choosing RNY and plan to believe that I will dump on sugar and to never intentionally eat it. Our fellow board member Tami told me that and she's done fantastic and Jan too. I am having my surgery 12/26 so I'll be keeping you all informed about how I do. I believe I will be successful. I'm a positive person and I think believing helps make things happen. That and faith in God. Hugs and love and you'll decide what is right for you. Oh, also, I am a coward about having a plastic thingy around my stomach. Go figure??? Lana

I also bounced back and forth but I dont think the lap would be enough for me . and I am older and dont have the time for another surgery, but that has to be your decision....God bless ...Vesta
