Hi everybody, i am pretty new here. I am trying to do things to reduce the risk of ending up having to have open RNY rather than lap. I started weigh****chers 2 weeks ago....as of tonight down 8.8 pounds. Did most of you try to lose, lose , lose before surgery? My paper work said try to reduce 7%. that would be 23 pounds for me! I;m trying my best. I don't want to miss much work to have this done. Thanks for being my sounding board....Tara

Hi Tara, WTG on the weight loss, every pound counts, I had to lose weight before I had surgery, I had the RNY, but im sure its the same for lapband. I lost about 70 lbs or so before surgery, it wasnt easy BUT....Im so glad I did cuz it made the surgery and my recovery go so much smoother. One of the reasons they like you to lose weight before surgery is to reduce the size of the liver so they can see where they are going. Anyway Im just ramblin here, keep up the good work!!! Andrew

Hi Vesta....I can't wait til I have a date. Does your Dr. have you on liquids 2 weeks prior to surgery? My coworker was on for two weeks prior, one week full liq. then one week of clear....that is gonna be rough. My paper work did not indicate this but that is one way to take off some major weight before surgery...I had forgotten about that, thanks for reminding me. Tara

Tara, Keep up the good work. Any weight you lose beforehand is a bonus on what you'll lose afterward. Congratulations. Lana
