Frustrated....
Ok, call me obsessive, but I can't help it. It felt sooo good to see the numbers on my scale finally read in the 240's. I am on my 4th day of not losing any weight. I have heard of post-ops going through the platues, but not the new post-ops. Is this normal? I have not done anything I am not supposed to. I am not "over eating", thats impossible, no matter how bad I want to. It just won't fit. I am full after just a few bites, and not big ones either. I have not strayed away from the diet at all and I am getting some protien in. For the last few days I have been getting at least 20 gms. in. Is it possible to stretch your pouch this soon after surgery? I drink constantly, all day long. It takes me all day to drink a bottle of water, my protien shake (about 10 oz. can), and 8 ozs. of skim milk. When I say all day, I mean from 7 am until about 3 am. Am I overdoing it? I don't think that I am because my skin and my lips are dry and cracking. Chapstick has become my new best friend. I am just so frustrated that the scale still reads 247. I can't really complain that much about how much I have lost so far. It's still 14.5 pounds in about a week. I am just wondering if this is normal for new post-ops to have times where they don't lose any.
Kat,
Everyone's body is different, some lose alot in the first weeks and some dont. For me I hit a plateau right off like you have. Maybe mine was because I lost some weight before surgery I dunno but I did hit a plateau and it's just NOW starting to move again so dont give up. Im almost 4 weeks out now.
As for your protein, according to our hand book and from what Dr. H has said, you need to be getting in more protein. I believe its like 90 grams a day recommended. Im not sure what your using as protein shakes but most of us or alot anyway use the Whey Gold Standard 100% Protein Powder, it comes in alot of different flavors. Using skim milk and the powder, its about 30grams or so of protein for each shake, I drink 3 a day. Sometimes I'll drink 2 a day and eat a couple protein balls from the reciept that Claudette posted a few days ago. Im like Jan, I use the protein shake for my meal then use food for a snack if I'm hungry and that has started my weight loss again. Also walking is VERY important. 30mins a day is a must they say. Hope this helps ya. Hang in there gurl just keep on keeping on and it'll come off.
Andrew
Kat you havent stretched your pouch no way. What is happening is your body things it is starving so it is holding onto all the weight it can to sustain you. You have to work at gettin in more water more protein and walk and walk and walk.
It cant get rid of the weight unless you get it someting to work on. so up that protein sip more often sip sip sip sip. constantly. Make yourself get at least 15 cc in in 15 min. at first then keep upping it. I know it isnt easy but do what you can to increase it . strive for 90 grams of protein and at least 64 oz of water or flavored water. no caffeine, no carbonated waters those dehydrated you more. it will come along but you have to sort of push yourself to get in more protein and water,. Kat, kat, kat, kat, kat, !! Hey girl you are only 10 days out. Your body is trying to heal itself and loosing anymore right now is not to be worried about. It will happen . I have had the same thing happen when ever I lost a lot in the past. Did you remember to measure yourself? Usually you will lose inches even if you don't see the pounds going and you know your draws wear loose at the doc's office
but do try to get in more protein. Drink as much as you can with that your body needs that really bad now. Julia
