What is the fastest way to get rid of a cold? I woke up this morning feeling miserable. My throat hurts, I'm coughing, my nose is stuffed up, and my head hurts. How can I be sick? I have done everything to ensure that I wouldn't get sick before surgery. I only have a week to go and I can not be sick. Does anyone have any advice on how to get over a cold really, really fast?

take tylenol or someting for the pain , drink lots and lots and lots of fluids. water , juice and rest. it will probably be gone in 3 days. take some sort of upper respiratory allergie meds. may only be allergys....if you dont have fever they will probably do surgery anyway. Jan

I guess if I do have a cough, it would help with the respitory exercises I was told about. I was told that they urge you to cough and use the spirometer thing. I am just so nervous and dont want anything to go wrong....

I have heard that Zicam and zinc lozenges (sp?) work well. Give the PCP a call and ask for recomendations in addition to the normal chicken soup. Best of luck to you. Get lots of rest and fluids and do deep breathing exercises (thru your mouth) to expand those lungs.

Hi Kat, I always heard you could get a virus from the computer I too have this terrible cold and mine is also allergy assisted with a big heap of asthma thrown in and trust me that is a lousy recipe! The Zicam you can get over the counter and I have had people tell me it works, Iv'e never tried it. With a cold it usually will take 3 to 4 days for the worse no matter what. You can try over the counter cold remedies to help relieve the symptoms but a cold will always run it's course. Feel lucky you have it now not later.Antihistamines, tylenol and some good cough medicine will always help. Hope you feel better soon. Try not to worry. Get plenty of rest and a nice hot bath will help you relax JULIA

The best thing to do is call your surgeons office as to what you can take that won't effect your surgery. Some medications you shouldn't take for up to 30days before surgery so I would drink lots of orange juice and rest a lot until Monday and then call your doctor. Your body is better able to fight if it is a resting state so SLEEP and REST. Eat chicken soup too. I'll pray for you. Dannielle

Kat, I swear on AIRBORNE!!!! I take it ALL the time!! Take a dose every copule of hrs till you are feeling better. (if you've not used it bofore, it's a tablet you dislove in a bit of water, I use it everytime I START to feel soemthign coming on and it works!!) It's all natural too so shouldn't interfere with surgery plans. Hope you are better soon.
