Does anyone know where I can get a medical bracelet that says I had Gastric Bypass? This was a discussion at our last support meeting and I forgot to write it down. I could probably get one at a local pharmacy, but I dont remember what it is suppose to say. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks Kathleen

I got mine from a company in Riverside, MO that has a website called www.laurenshope.com. They came to a support group meeting I attended in Overland Park, KS and they convinced me to get one. In fact, I think all of us should have one. They know the correct wording to put on the ID tag and everything. Good luck. Scott

I don't mean to sound like I own stock in medical ID's but ... I am a Paramedic, I see medical jewelry all the time. I seem to have gotten sensitive lately about this subject. Think about what this bracelet is going to be doing, it's going to speak for you if you can't, if you are bleeding inside, have a problem with your airway or something else that has caused you to become unconscious. Also, will your jewelry be found in a timely manner or could it be torn off during an emergency such as an auto accident? I think it should say important things that will make a difference in a matter of minutes for you. How about MEDICINE ALLERGIES so you aren't given something that causes an anaphylactic reaction, or your pertinent past MEDICAL HISTORY put into one or two words. You can have GASTRIC BYPASS put on, that's about all you need, anything else will be a waste of precious space. Something even more important (that a lot of people overlook) and will probably be the most vital to your survival --- TELL YOUR FAMILY ABOUT YOUR MEDICAL PROBLEMS. If your family or friends are called and they have NO INFORMATION about you, nothing has been gained including vital information that might be needed for your survival.

Thanks for the information, You are right I didnt think about telling family. I was going to have Gastric Bypass Patient No NG Tube, but then there are alot of rural places that wont know what that is either. I will be sure to tell all my family my conditions in case of an accident or other medical emerency. Kathleen

We were having the discussion on the main board here. Go see if any of your questions have been answered there, we had quite the conversation going, it was fun. Go to the main board (general support & questions) and look within the last few hours. I't under the post of "THOSE DARNED MEDICALL ID JEWELRY QUESTIONS". You can get to the main board by going to the top of this page up to blue button that says FORUM at the top of the page, click on it. It's a fun topic to discuss, I like it.
