hello, new to the MO board and scared...
Hello everyone, my name is Kel and though I'm not too new to OH, I am to the MO board.
I would like to express my sympathies about the loss of your friend Marilyn here on this board.
I won't lie to you all, I'm scheduled for surgery on Tuesday next week with Dr. Hornbostel, and after reading what happened, I'm scared to death.
I really don't mean to be a pain in the butt, but this is just messing with my head. I was fine and ready up until just a bit ago and now I'm needing a xanax to calm me down.
Kel,
I am nervous as well. My surgery is on Dec. 1st. I have to hold my head up high and remember that the Lord had his plans for Marilyn. I don't know what lead up to this tragic event, but I have complete faith in Dr. Hornbostel. I have faith in the Lord that all things will work out alright. This may not comfort a person who may not hold the same faith, but I have to think positive. I need this surgery so I can give my children a better life. I was told that if i don't get this surgery done, I will have a stroke before I am 30. Stay positive and express your concerns when you see Dr. H. If you still feel uncomfortable with the surgery, you can always back out. This is your right. Not sure if this will help you or not.
First, thank you for replying. I have faith in Dr. Hornbostel and I know I have to have this surgery done. It's just that this has shaken me up a good bit. My husband has been on about me dying during surgery and well, this just added fuel to his worries.
I'm not backing out, I'll be there Tuesday morning.
Hi Kellie
Remember that Marilyn said herself that heart disease ran in her family and that her relatives didn't live long lives, so this could have happened if she hadn't had surgery.
Pray about your surgery but also remember that without the surgery a long live is probably not in our future due to complications from being overweight. I know it's the best thing I have ever done for myself. Heart disease runs in my family too. I admit I was scared when I went into surgery. But now after losing 65 pounds in 3 months and feeling better than I have in years I'd do it again in a New York second.
Take care and God Bless
Brenda

Hi Kel and welcome to the Missouri Board, hope you keep coming back and posting, the people here are the nicest in all of OH.
As for Marilyn, she had other health issues going into surgery. I'm sure she was cleared by her cardiologist and other doctors or Dr. Hornbostel would not of done the surgery. Whether the surgery speed up death or not God only knows, she might of passed on with or without the surgery. I do know that I have the highest faith in Dr. Hornbostel, he's one of the best and safest Doc's around.
Bless ya Kel and be sure to keep posting
Andrew

Want to welcome you to the MO board! I understand your thoughts, they are normal. It was the best thing that happened to me. The best I could have done for my family!!! Only you know if your ready. Dr. Hornbostel is the best and prays prior to all surgeries. You will be in good hands. Have a great Thanksgiving and I will put you in my prayers as well on Tuesday. I hope we get to welcome you on to the LOSER"S BENCH!! Where there is always room for one more!!!
I know you have fear and I would worry about anyone who considers a major surgery without any apprehension. What I want you to think about is not our dear Marilyn who is in the glory of God right now, but rather all of the success stories. Read profiles and look at before and after pictures, ask questions and ask for suport. There are so many more people who go on to live a new life than those that lose theirs or have a bad outcome.
Focus on the positive not the negative. Be informed but not discouraged and then make your final decision.
I'll pray for God to give you peace.
Dannielle

Welcome Kel - I had surgery in July and have lost 133 pounds as of this morning when I weighed. This surgery is the best thing you can do for yourself to avoid what happened to Marilyn. Although I don't know for sure, it sounds like it was her heart and nothing to do with the surgery itself that caused her heart to give out.
I am 45 years old and realized that there were risks with having the surgery, but to me those risks were far less than the risks of having a heart attack or stroke. I now weigh less than I have since I was in my early 20s and feel better.
Have faith in the Lord to guide you and you'll be fine. Good luck and keep in touch.
Scott
