Question About Vitamin
Andrew,
I can't help you with The B-100 because Dr. Hornbostal never put me on it.
But I remember crushing my meds back in August and I couldn't find anything that would cover up the AWFUL TASTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why did he put you on the B-100 with Thiamin?????????
I never was given that, what is it for????
I'm glad you are doing well!!!!!!

Hey hey Brenda,
In the white manual that Dr. Hornbostel gave me it calls for the B-100 with Thiamin and Margie also said when she came by to visit me the day after surgery that he likes his patients to take it. It's primarly to help with energy I believe. I also take the multi-vitamin and calcium with vitamin D, I havnt started on the B-12 yet but will next week prolly. I only one med that i have to crush and Margie suggested I put it in sf applesauce, its a small med so its not noticable at all but the B-100 is just awful. I dunno why I take it and you dont but anyway, sure hope your doing good, I can't believe how good I feel in just a short time after surgery.
Thanks Brenda,
Andrew
Andrew,
I started taking the B-1 right after surgery and I did cru**** It was horrible tasting and I took in in yogurt and it gagged me but I took it anyway. Must say I have always felt good. I do from our support group in Sedalia one of the people got really sick and she was given this to start on. Once you can swallow pills again, you can swallow it. I take it to this day. Colette
Yeah now I remember, Margie also said Dr. H gives it to his patients cuz it's been proven to also help keep nausia down. Yeah I do take it Colette but only cuz I need it. Once I'm on stage two I'll try putting it in some mashed taters or something but Im sure it'll be the same with anything. Thanks Colette.

Andrew,
Thiamin was a requirement for me right out of the hospital and was advised that along with B-12, Multi-vitamins and Calcium, Thiamin was a rest of my life requirement. Because early post-ops have difficulties swallowing pills, you can request Liquid Thiamin from your Surgeon via a prescription.
Why Thiamin (B-1)? Gastric Bypass patients (3+ months post-op) with thiamin deficiency can develop peripheral neuropathy and central nervous system injury. Resulting symptoms of thiamin deficiency come in the form of uncontrolled vomiting and subsequent dehydration.
Give the Liquid Thiamin a try!

Thanks so much Cards Fan, They did give me Thiamin in my IV at the hospital, I will for sure look around for the liquid Thiamin, Dr Hornbostel requires us to have also and Im doin everything HE says. I did start taking the B-100 with Thiamin the week before surgery and I sure have not had any nasea since surgery, I didnt even have any just after surgery which I was surprised about but I know if I stick to the book like most of ya do I wont have any.
Thanks again for your post, that helped alot.
Andrew
