I am wanting to get the Lap band, my insurance does not cover it, however my husband is currently between jobs. I would like to know if anyone knows of anyplace hiring that does offer insurance that covers the surgery around the St. Louis/Franklin county area.

what type of work does your husband do? But to answer your question, I work for Citigroup and they offer 2 different insurance policies, you can get either GHP or United Healthcare, GHP won't cover either of the surgeries, but United Healthcare will cover both. Also I have heard that Harrah's employee's now have the benefit of getting WLS through their insurance as well. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the lead, that helps. I went to a seminar last night from NewStart and got the name of their insurance person. I'm going to call them today to see if she has any ideas. My husband is being really supportive and said he will do or work wherever he needs to to get me through the process. I really appreciate your suggestions. Thanks!

I feel your pain! I was right where you are a year ago and my husband was going to do the same thing. We heard (through the rumor mill) that First Card, Lowe's and possibly home depot insurers might cover the procedure. I've been told that Springfield Public Schools insurance covers it. Now, take that with a grain of salt, it's been over a year since I was looking for potential employers and many insurance groups are dropping WLS as a covered benefit. The best bet might be to go to all the support group meetings you can and pose your question to the group. There's bound to be some folks with some good info for you. I gave up and ended up going to Mexico for my surgery. I had an awesome experience and two of my friends have since gone down to Mexico and had surgery. I and one of my friends had RNY, the other had lap banding. We are all doing well. Hang in there! Victoria
