Hi, My name is Latonia. I am trying to learn more about the lap band system and effects you will feel after surgery. I am a seizure patient that weighs 437 pounds. I am praying that this will be a blessing for me at this time. My family physician is very excited for me and she is getting the ball rolling by writing a letter for my insurance company. The question I need answered at this time is about medication going through the stoma. I take 700 mg. of Dillantin daily, 600 mg. of Topamax daily and 2000 mg. of Keppra daily. These medications are mixtures of capsules and tablets. The Keppra is a very large tablet but I can break it in half. I would like to know if there has been anyone having problems swallowing medication after having this surgery. I cannot take the liquid form of Dillantin and there is no liquid form for the rest of my seizure medications. Thank You,

Hi Latonia. I really can't help you, as I had lap RNY surgery and not lapband. I do know that there are a lot of pills I cannot take anymore for various reasons. For me, medication has to be smaller than a M&M in order to travel through my stoma. Good luck!
