New to the Board
Hello everyone! I am new to the board, but 3 months post-op. I live in Kansas City, and really like the fact that everyone here is from good old Missouri. I had lap RNY on August 1, 2006. As of yesterday I am 13 weeks out and down 59 pounds. Dr. Hoehn is my doctor and I had surgery at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. I had a small complication in the hospital, and since have had two strictures and an ulcer, but I am taking it all in stride and am doing great. I am working out 7 days a week (water aerobics three days, weight lifting three days and walking one day). I am 43 years young, have been married to my soul mate for 19+ years and have an almost 15 year old son. I am strong in my faith and active in my church. I believe God gave me this surgery as a second chance at life and I'm taking it and running! I have been MO all of my life, and just got tired of the yo-yo life plans. I hope to get to know you all better. Take care and God Bless. - Kim
Hello Kim, my name is Debbie or Deb M since there is more than one Debbie on the board. Congrats on your surgery and weight loss! I am still pre-surgery but looking to have Lap Band soon! I tried Hoehn and other Drs in the metro area but either they don't accept Medicare or they weren't COE so I've had to drive on over to Sedalia to see Dr. Hornbostel. I am very happy with him and his staff.
By the way, if peeps on here refer to Dr. H, don't assume their talking about Dr. Hoehn....there are a lot of Dr. H's in the area that do wls.
Welcome to the board, we have plenty of pre and post op patients that will be more than happy to help you with any questions you have or if you just need a little support!

Kim welcome to the Missouri Board. we have a lot of really good people on here that love the Lord too. We have all become quite the family i think. Or at least i feel like they all are my family and cant wait each day to see what they all have been up to.
Let us get to know you and if you have any questions someone on here will surely know the answers. I too had surgery in August of this year on the 14th i am down 46 pounds already and so thrilled. I have gone from size 22s down to 18s and they are beginning to get lose on me now. it has been a long time since i wore that size.
you really are active wish i had someplace to do all of that at. but i do walk every day and exercise to a video tape i have about 2 or 3 times a week. keep up the good work. Jan
Welcome Kim. I too live in KC on the Missouri side and had RNY surgery with Dr. Hoehn's partner, Dr. Hitch**** on 7/11/06. I'm doing great and have lost over 120 pounds since the first time I saw the surgeon. I know that the people on the Missouri board are much more active and friendly than those on the Kansas site which I've visited since I actually had the surgery in Kansas at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Keep in touch and it sounds like you're doing fantastic. I wish I had the will to exercise that you have. Good luck and don't be a stranger.
Scott
P.S. What part of KC do you live?
Hello everyone and thank you for the kind welcome. I look forward to getting to know each of you better.
Vesta - good luck and congrats on your upcoming surgery. This is an amazing experience with ups and downs, but at least for me, the ups far out weigh the downs! If there is anything I can help you with, don't hesitate to ask.
Deb M. - Hubby works at Ford in Claycomo, so I have BCBS of Kansas City and they covered my surgery and luckily, Dr. Hoehn is on my insurance list. I do know that they have submitted their paperwork to try to become a COE. I hope they do!
Jan - I've been reading your posts and want to say what an inspiration you are first thing in the morning! I love your greenhouse project. As far as my exercise, I actualy enjoy doing it! I've made a promise to myself that I am going to continue with my water aerobics through the winter. I will not allow myself to wimp out when it gets even colder! I have a YMCA very close to my house and I really do love their facility. I get to do the weight circuit training and water aerobic classes as part of my monthly fee.
Scott - You are doing phenomenal! 120 pounds since July - WOW! I live north of the river right off of Englewood Road and Antioch. In fact, right across the street from me is Gladstone. Do you live north or south of the river? I am assuming you live south because I don't think I've seen you at the northland support meetings. Do you go to the SMMC support group? I work out at the YMCA off of Vivion Road. I also quit smoking and gave up my caffiene before surgery, so I think I have basically replaced my cigarettes, caffience and food with exercise. Not a bad trade!!
Again, thanks to all for the kind welcome.
Welcome to the Missouri board Kim!
I had my surgery 8-17-06, I weighed at 9 weeks out and had lost 56 pounds.
I think we are both doing great!!!
I wish you continued blessings on your weight loss. I to, like you, give all the credit to God for my surgery. With out his blessings I know I wouldn't be where I'm at today.

Kim,
Welcome to the board and congrats on your new life.
It has been a wonderful life changing experience for me and I am at goal and holding.
Take pictures as you go down in weight.....I wish I had took more as I shrank....Maybe one every month or every couple of months.
Hope to see you here again soon,
Glenna
Kim,
Welcome to the Missouri Board. This is a fantastic family. We love each other lots. And we love getting new brothers and sisters. You are doing so well in your journey and your exercise program is the bomb. I am in the final stretch of a six month physician supervised diet/exercise program required by my insurance prior to approval. I anticipate having surgery in early Spring. I will have it in Springfield with Dr. Hodges. I am originally from Union Star which is 20 miles NE of St. Joseph so Kansas City is familiar to me and I drive through quite often on my way from Nixa (Springfield area) to visit people up North. I'm glad you understand the importance of keeping up your exercise, it's the key to losing and keeping the weight off. Visit often and share with us.

Hi Kim and welcome to the MO board!
Wish I had time to get to a pool for the water aerobics! I LOVE doign those! I used to teach them when I was pre-op, which shows that almost ANYONE can do them and even though you don't always FEEL a big impact, you gradually see the difference, like goign to CURVES.
Nice to have you on the MO board! Hope to see ya more often.
